I've been watching tickets ever since they opened reservations for our Dec31-Jan 7 trip. The nonstop flight we wanted on Delta hadn't changed more than $10 or so ever since then. My goal was to wait until Southwest prices came out, hoping that would cause a drop in Delta fares. Well, Friday night late we decided to buy with Southwest. Sat morning I had a notice from my fare watcher that my fare had changed. I wanted to cry when I saw that the same flight I've been watching for 7 months dropped $53 per person less than 8 hours after we purchased our tickets. I had myself convinced that we were within our budget and we were still going to Disney no matter that the fare dropped. Well, my husband decided it wouldn't hurt to call Southwest. They completely refunded our tickets since it had been less than 24 hours since we bought them!!! I was doing a little jig all the way to the computer to buy our awesome flights with Delta :bounce:

Other airlines (and I think Travelocity also) will do this, too...for instance, with Delta, they will let you cancel for any reason without a penalty AS LONG AS YOU DO IT BEFORE MIDNIGHT OF THE DAY AFTER YOU BOOK YOUR FLIGHT. There may be exceptions, of course, so don't COUNT on it but keep it in mind should your plans (or their fares) change as soon as you book something! Have a great trip!

Do you mind me asking how much you paid for your tickets? I'm looking for tickets 12-25 thru 12-30 and the rates aren't all that great where I am.

Thanks

I was kinda in the same boat! We had 4 sky miles award tickets already booked through Delta and were just waiting to buy the other 2 but the prices were so dang high. Being from the west coast with a smaller airport, it already cost a pretty penny. Plus we were adding on an extra leg on the way there to stop for Thanksgiving with my parents in Las Vegas, so I am sure that added more.

Anyways, southwest fares came out, and still not much of a change, then on a hunch I decided to call yesterday, and BAM, the flight went down almost 200 bucks per person! I grabbed them immediately and did a happy jig too. I couldn't have even got them much cheaper on SW...so I am happy. I notice every end of summer (end of August) the fares go down after the summer travel season is ending...

We're flying RT from RDU to MCO for $117 on Delta!! Totally within my budget. I didn't expect prices that good around New Year's!! The whole reason my husband called was because I knew Delta had their policy about midnight the next day so I was hoping Southwest did too:) I'm still so excited:)
