Ok, I got my camera (EasyShare DX6440) and after reading directions for an hour and slowly going through every step, I have it on the dock and it is charging the batteries.
So I read in the book that the batteries will take about 165-205 pictures on it's juice. So my question is seeing as I will be bringing along the dock to charge batteries every night do you's think buying just one more set (it takes 2) of batteries to have with me will be plenty or should I buy more just in case. I know I read that reviewing the pictures takes alot of juice so it is not recommended to review them until it get put back on the dock or until you transfer them to your laptop (which we will be bringing with us also). Is that correct?
Thanks so much again for all the useful information, we are leaving in 59 days and I want to make sure I figure this camera out by then!!

I have the same exact camera and what I do is bring the dock with me, along with my normal supply of AA rechargable batteries (4). I then use the charged battery until it is dying and then change to the other battery. I only bring 2 in my fanny pack per day so its not like they are extremely heavy or take up much space. This way I always have an extra set of batteries with me just in case and always have one set charging. Charging every night really helps and I have never actually gone into the secondary batteries.

Also, just a hint - the camera will turn itself into a sleep mode that looks like off, but it really is not off and it is using battery power at that time. Its really easier to turn it off when you know that you will not be using it.

Ok---that sounds like a good plan I think I will do the same.
Will make sure I have it off when not in use also.
I havent tried taking a picture with it yet, actually kinda afraid to because then I would have to go on to the next step of putting them on the computer and perhaps I might need my husband here to do that, I am not that handy on the electronics!!

I am just itching to use it though--Cant wait.

Play with the camera until you have the hang of it or run out of memory. You can always delete those pictures if they are that bad. This way you can take all those really weird zoom in pics and not be embarrassed if they don't come out. That way when even if you can't get the dock set up, you will be all set to transfer right away once it is ready.

By the way, how much extra memory did you buy? I have a couple 256 cards, a 128, a 32, and an 8 (tells you how long I have had these cards since the camera itself comes with 16 MB). Usually I watch amazon for the rebates and pick up the 256 MB cards for less than $30 apiece. I think the last one I bought came to $27 after the rebate. Can usually find one on sale in the stores for $40 - 45.

Go to www.zipzoomfly.com They have 256mb SD memory for $13.50 after rebate - including 2nd day air shipping. Last week it was $9.40. Their prices are hard to beat.

I bought a 512 and a 256 and I believe it said it came with 16 internal.
I was also wondering how does the camera "tell you" when you are out of memory?
Thanks again,

Lory

In the upper corner, it tells you how many pictures are available. When that gets to 0, your card is full. If you set the card on auto, it will then automatically switch to the internal memory and allow you to use that as well.

Hi all-
I bought my DX6490 (thought it was a 6440) still haven't tried it. Does anyone know of a good 256 memory card to buy. I see scandisc? on zipzoomfly-are they any good, or should I stick to a Lexar or Kodak? thanks:wave2:

I have a DX6490 and two 256 MG memory cards. One memory card is Sandisk, the other is Panasonic. I don't think it matters what brand you use.

Some cameras don't work well with the Ultra/10x/faster memory cards. My Panasonic card is one of the faster ones. No problem.

Thanks for the help- I bought 2 Kodak SDmemor cards-256 MG-figured I couldnl't go wrong with them- now to master the camera- and time's getting so close!!:Pinkbounc :hyper:
