Got a toy for Christmas!

Well..... Not a toy.... a big boy toy!

I got a Phantom Quad copter!! Yes I now own a drone!

It is amazing. It is very easy to fly because it has GPS built in and when on if you lose signal to it, it returns to home and lands itself.

It can fly about 600 ft up and about 1/2 mile away with the standard controller.

And of course it holds a go pro so you can video the flight.

I will post a youtube video of a flight soon so you can see.

Does anyone else have one? Would love to hear your experiences!

DW and I are going on the Disney Alaska Cruise next May and I would really love to take to have on glacier, etc. DW is against at this point!!!

We have a friend who shot a high school football game with one and my husband has been very jealous since then. He wants one to play with so bad.

Mark Barbieri has one and posted some video from it. There is a great set of videos online from one flown over Niagara Falls! That and a glacier flight seems like they have the potential to lose a nice copter but the videos are probably worth the risk.

I plan to get one in the next few months. There are numerous websites with information on how to improve the stability of the GoPro video by tuning or modifying (or throwing $$$ at) the copter!

I have a gimbal that I have not installed yet. That should help with the video.

I have not seen Mark's video but I think I have seen them all on youtube.

You are right that this can be a pit that a lot of money can go into!!

I have a 350QX (Horizon Blade) which is very similar. I fly RC as and full scale as a hobby; hence my screen name.

Wait until you put a GoPro on that bad boy. You will be hooked for life.

you better check with Disney rules for the cruise. I don't think they will allow it on the ship, since one thing that is banned from the ship is kites. you better call before you take it with you

You know that is the thing. I am not one to break rules. But is this a time when it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission. I would not fly it on the ship but would fly it while in port! Also would never fly in Canada.

Wilson, I know. It is already at the hobby shop for upgrades!!!!!!!!!!!
I do have a question? What radio transmitter do you use? The one that came with it or aftermarket. Reading on the internet, FUTABA seems to be the brand of choice for the Phantom. Yet the local hobby shop likes Spectrum? Any ideas or opinions?

I mean as in allow, I don't think they will even let you bring it on the ship. The best bet would by call dcl and ask now. Cause I don't think you would wanna get it there and not be able to take it on the ship, then you have to leave it at the port with security for a week, and get it when you get off the ship after the cruise, and take a chance of it going missing and finding security which could put your whole day behind. It is crazy at the port in Canada cause we took the Alaska cruise this summer. It's very organized at the port.
