Got a PIN code from Disney today, so for giggles I looked for a comparable unit to our Vistana 2BR. The closest match I could find for the same March week that we own was a 2BR at OKW for almost $4k for the week! :scared1: That's supposed to be 40% off!! :scared1::scared1:

Boy am I glad I own a timeshare. My annual costs are well under 1/4 of that "special" rate.

We are so with you. We don't own a timeshare, but rent Bonnet Creek through Ken. For us, Disney has priced themselves right out of the market. We have rented from DVC members in the past (getting a better deal than directly thru Disney), but can't justify the cost anymore. Even if money were no issue, we'd pay 1/4th of the price and donate the rest.

Offsite hotels, condos, timeshare properties etc are significantly less expensive then onsite properties.

Disney is able to charge a price premium for location.

No question offsite provide a "better buy" for many families.

Disney offers free transportation from MCO. Great, and free, transportation to the parks. Availability of the meal plan. Ability to ship items back to your resort. Free RAC. Many of the DVC properties are positioned so you can walk to at least one park. OKW guests can walk to DTD.

Those features may not be important to you. There isn't any way you can say a Vistana unit is comparable to a DVC unit.

I agree; it's not comparable. It's $3000.00 a week cheaper! With Disney on sale!! That's 1 zero too many to make me want to switch... Think how much extra you can do with $3K.

Using your PIN code requires booking the unit through Disney as a hotel guest, with daily maid service. An honest comparison would be comparing the cost with booking Vistana on Starwood's website. An honest comparison would be comparing the cost to renting points from a DVC owner. A week in a 2 bedroom unit at OKW goes for 217 points. You should be able to rent points for OKW for $10-$11 /point. Maybe less if you get lucky.

I agree booking a DVC unit directly through Disney is very expensive, even with a PIN code.

An offsite timeshare unit is not comparable to a unit on Disney property.
