Got a bit of a shock at Sears Portrait Studio...

We used to buy a proof disk with all of the shots for $15. The price has gone up a little...to $199.00! Needless to say, I did not come home tonight with proof shots! Apparently they're now digital and with the copyright. But $15 was within my budget, and $199 -- not so much!

I got my $9.99 portrait package (advertised on the internet, but not mentioned in the store), my free 8X10 (also advertised on the internet with a coupon code and not mentioned in the store) and another free 8X10 because they rescheduled my appointment.

C'Ya later Sears!!! We have had our portraits taken there as well. At $199 they won't be having us as customers any more.

199.99 are they smoking some good stuff to think the proofs are worth that LOL.

Well they merged with Kmart. You didn't expect things to get better did you? :rotfl:

It makes me wonder if there is something that folks could do with the (new) proof sheet (now) that would make it less likely that Sears would get the follow-on business for the prints. I suspect that the old fee was just a token, and was intended solely to facilitate the follow-on sales.

Just checked something.... At the Sears Portrait Studio here in Burlington, you get 23 Portrait Sheets, 2 Composites, a Wall Portrait, and 11 enhancements for a little over $200. All those prints for that price, so clearly if they're charging just for the shots on disk for that amount, it surely seems a matter that folks were just taking the disk and never buying the prints. Since that old price makes it clear the studio was making its money on the prints, it didn't make sense to offer the disk at $15! We can't even get lunch at the mall for that amount! :)

It seems reasonable to me when folks can easily print them out themselves or use them before without paying the now higher fee.

It even happens with the Photopass. :confused3

I'm really surprised they would do this, what with every Wal-Mart and Target having a studio also. Haven't hit Wally's yet for Christmas photos, but will when I get my act together (ha ha!). But I paid, I think, ~$10 for the disc. I've heard too many bad things about Sears (and had bad luck with Penney's) that I'd just as soon go to the close Wal-Mart anyway.

I had forgotten about the Sears-K-Mart thing, but I was very bummed when they purchased Lands End. They used to be one of my all time favorites, but through the past few years, we've been seeing what I call the "Sears-ification" of Lands End. It's a shame, really.

I've been using Sears Portrait Studio for years and I'm starting to think they are getting to pricey also. I used to get great coupons in the mail and I rarely get them anymore. The price of single sheets just went up from $14.99 to $19.99 w/o a coupon - it's ridiculous!!! They are not that good.

I just renewed my Smile Savers Club, but I think I may take a look at what JC Penney has to offer because I always get coupons for their portrait studio. I like the lady I use at Sears for my kids pictures, but money talks sometimes.

I've never tried Sears. I do really like JC Penny's. I had Brittany's Christmas pictures done a few weeks ago (I hate the pre-holiday crowds). For abt $75, I got the sitting fee, 1 package, "free" 8x10, smile by wire (pictures emailed to me) and 30 holiday postcards. When I picked up the pictures, they'd made up 3 additional sheets (which they always do). $15 for the 3.

I have a TON of pictures with lots of different poses. With the email, it was so easy to download the pictures and use them as my screensaver.

What I really liked, the postcards now can be made with 2 different pictures at no addtional price.

I'm really happy with this years pictures and pleased with the reasonable price.

The $9.99 package wasn't a code. It was on their web site. But once you get to the studio you have to know to ask for it. They don't advertise it in the studio. It's for 1 8X10, 2 5X7s, 16 wallets, and 16 of those teeny tiny ones you can barely see.

The free 8X10 code came in an e-mail. It may be just for Smile Savers, but if you're going to Sears anyway it would be worth trying. Here's the link:
