Gosh Darn Nice People Here!

Our family usually visits Disneyland and Disneyworld every year, and so I find myself flitting back and forth between the small collection of Disneyland Posts and the Huge Collection of Disney World posts and gosh darn it....

The Disneyland Posters are just a lot nicer than the folks who post about Walt Disney World. It seems as if people here, generally, extend a bit more grace to others. Fuses seem longer here and grand sweeping pronouncements of a vitriolic nature are much rarer.

My hubby and I were discussing my thoughts on the matter and here are a few ideas as to why this is the case:

1. Disneyland just isn't as complicated as Walt Disney World:cool1:, and as such, the issues aren't as complicated or contentious.

2. While Disney Corp. does love to change things at their whim at both parks, they sure seem to like "upsetting the apple cart" for Florida far more often. So, it leads to situations where people who offer advice which is in direct conflict:headache: even when two posters have been on site very recently.

3. Californians are just a more laid back and happy crowd:hippie: than compared with some of the east coast folks who seem wound tighter than a cheap watch.

So, has anyone else noticed this?

Oh, and if anyone wants to start a snarky filled complaint fest about what I have posted I suggest you do what I just suggested to my congressman...eat a cookie, have a glass of milk, take a nap, or have a time out. (I believe if you act like a two year old, then I should be allowed to treat you like a two year old.):rotfl2:

Haha, I have never been on the WDW forum but I do love how even though I know that a question has been asked before (I just can't find it) I am not criticized for posting. On another forum I have been on I would be scared to post anything, often I would end up erasing what I've asked before posting because I just don't want to get yelled at, and here I don't get that feeling. The people on here are just plain nice! :lovestruc

I think it also helps that a lot of Aussies post here :rotfl: We're a good bunch.

I do love it here though. It's been an awesome place to get hooked on. I've never been on the WDW site.

I agree with jacs, it's definately because of all the Aussie's in here :rotfl:

Actually being serious, I found all the people around Disneyland and in Anaheim soooooooo friendly and nice. The people in the restaurants, shops, Disney CM's and even taxi drivers and bus drivers were just so incredibly nice, everyone just seemed so happy.

When we moved on out of Anaheim to other places............................ well, that's a whole different story

xxx

I agree Aussiegirls. I never met a grumpy person while I was in Anaheim.

I rarely visit or post in the DisneyWorld section so I'm not sure if I feel we're friendlier, but I usually will feel lost and confused when I do visit . I'm just not use to the threads there, especially feel that way on other Disney forums - Disboards seems more organized.

We live in Texas so it's actually cheaper to go to WDW than DL. There are alot of arguments as to why one is better than the other. We had visited DL twice before we went to WDW for the first (and only ) time. I do see what you mean about the shortness of the some folks on the WDW site. And for us, that also flooded into the park. We saw so many cases of short fuses with the folks in the park. Grouchy parents and kids acting out on each other. Terrible profanity and spanking and punishing children in plain site. We alos saw so many smokers who didn't bother with the smoking areas ( I think CA is so low smoking that folks are used to regualtions) It was a real turn off for us.
I think WDW is so overwhelming. It requires ALOT of planning. And as we know from this board, there are folks who know people who do not plan. The overwhelming feelings of not being prepared can really cause stress.
DL has so many passholders and repeat visitors, planning is not as important. I also think that there are folks who want the bigger park than the better (IMHO) park. But they aren't prepared and they are stressed
That trickles down all the way to these boards. DH has vowed to never go back to WDW. I don't want to say we had a bad trip. How could Disney ever be bad? But DL fits our lifestyle better.

On DIS what you are saying is definitely true but IMO not for the reasons you outline. There are other non-DIS DLR boards that are even more contentious than the DIS WDW boards. There you will see posts like "WHAT! THEY CHANGED THE PAINT COLOR AT..?" DLR people can be very possessive.

I think what makes the DIS DLR boards different from others is that a larger percentage here are not SoCal locals which dominate some of the other boards. There seems to be a much higher female/male ratio here than on other DLR boards which I would say makes things softer. A lot of the people on this board seem to have kids which also tends to make people softer.

Now why would would DIS DLR be a nicer place than DIS WDW? Aside from the Aussies ;) I would say it is a bit of a fluke. Again I do not think it has anything to do with laid back California because you can go to MiceChat and see some real scraps every day.

I agree. I don't know what it is about this board but I love it. I think a lot of it is we are regular tourists who just plain love going on vacation and Disneyland happens to be a place we all love to go. We aren't trying to show off on this board, but get good tips and help where we can. There also seems to be a general feeling that there are many ways to do a Disneyland vacation right :)

I couldn't agree more. While I have never been on the WDW site here, I have been on "another" DL board and the people there were just plain mean sometimes! I was really turned off at how often people got flamed for stating their opinion. It actually happened to me but it was partly my fault.......a co-worker had told me about an incident on a recent trip to DL and I repeated it on the boards and got one of the facts wrong (totally my fault) and had people flat out call me a liar. I did apologize for the incorrect statement but I never really felt comfortable on that board after that and I have never been back! I found the DIS and love it here!!! So thank you everyone for making this also a "Happy Place"!

I have been to WDW once 5 years ago. Being a Cali girl all my life, there is a definitely a difference in the ways people act on the separate coasts. Oh, one thing I do remember from that trip was that Magic Kingdom had way more trash on the grounds and in the bushes. I had a CM ask me a few questions about our stay there and I told her that MK seemed more dirty to me than DL. She was quite taken aback at my statement but it was true! At DL, you hardly ever see trash on the ground and rarely in the bushes! Those CM's seem to pop out of nowhere with their brooms & dustpans!

I totally agree with you. I think the DLR boards are more of a community because thy are smaller, people know each other better, etc. Same with the DVC boards because those are some of the nicest boards on the DIS too!

I think the WDW boards get so many of the same question (and certain controversial questions) that the helpfulness becomes a sarcastic "why don't you know this? How could you ever think of that?" type of response. That's why I rarely venture over into that part of the woods.

WDW is about the size of San Francisco, DL is not (obviously) I don't know how anyone can plan a trip there without going kind of nuts

That said I did see a woman go totally nuts our first night of this past trip. I came off of star tours and she was beside me and just randomly started screaming at somebody in her family; but was right beside my ear  Later we saw her at the exit bawling. She would not handle WDW well lol.

DH gets on other boards while I am the solo DIS lurker in the house. He is always asking if we discuss this or that. But it always seem we are more planners, money and time savers. We seem more interested in making our trips stress free and enjoyable. Since that is one of the main reason we are all here, it may have to do with why we are so much more laid back? That's our touring style? I don't know :confused3

LOL, but I posted some of my "tips" over there that some people here find very useful and I got flamed and laughed at by several people. In truth I expected it but, wow, why are people that way? :confused3 I rarely post over there anymore. I do read - but not as often as I used to. I know there are people that know alot more about DLR that I do - but give me a break.

I couldn't agree more! I found this site about eight months ago and it has only fueled my DL addiction. I am a member on several non-Disney forums, and it's not a guarantee that your posts will be answered. Here, I feel like no matter the question, at least one quick reply can be counted on, even if only to direct the poster in the right direction.

Let's keep it up! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I agree with what everyone is saying. I find this to be a very friendly and extremely helpful board. I used so many tips on our first trip a couple of weeks ago and we had a fantastic time.
I think people gravitate to what they are comfortable with and those that stick primarily with DIS DLR enjoy the friendly atmosphere without all the drama. Those that post on the other boards may be looking to vent and they have the right audience there.

That's not cool :(

This board reminds me a lot of the tripadvisor boards. There are a lot of people who haven't been often or at all and then there are those of us who LOVE Disneyland and want to share our knowlege and help the newbies enjoy their trip. The other sites are more fan sites and it's expected that people already know what they are doing when they get there...I think there is a bit of that on the WDW boards here too.

I have noticed the same difference between the DLR and WDW boards. I agree that is partially has to do with the fact that we have a smaller community of individuals posting in the DLR forum area than in the WDW area.

Less people = less huffing, puffing and I'm going to flame your house down behavior.

Oh, I see that you finally did mention the name of that site, but the thread that I'll never forget was over the exact shade - not color - that a Princess' dress should be.

The obsessives don't tend to post here, so you don't get those no-holds barred fights. The value over at that other place is the non-obsessives who frequently visit DLR and provide timely and practical updates.
