Gorillas Get Covid

If you can't get the link to load, it says that 8 gorillas at the San Diego Zoo were coughing and their poop has tested positive for Covid. They probably got the virus from asymptomatic zookeepers who tested positive.

These gorillas aren’t the first animal species to get infected with this virus. It’s already been documented in minks, tigers, lions, puma, dogs, cats, and probably others.

The concern is that there is no idea what kind of mutation that the virus can and will undergo in any one species. Will it make it other host species more or less susceptible? (Usually more). Finding out which species that the virus is more prone to infecting and which species allow for an easier jump will be key to understanding the risks of a mutated variant if, sometime in the future, the virus from another species makes the jump back into humans.
