We are staying at the Hotel Royal Plaza. I am looking for a grocery store within walking distance (hopefully). Or some inexpensive restaurants. Two teens and a 8 year old child make for alot of food ;-). I know it is near Downtown Disney. Any advice would be appreciated!

Goodings is within walking distance but expensive. About 2 miles down the road (535) is a Winn Dixie. Go out to 535 and turn LEFT at the light (Crossroads Shopping Center in front of you). May be worth it to take a taxi of you don't have a car or use one of the pick up services from the aitport that offer a grcoery stop (se the Transportation Board for more info)

if you have a car, ask the hotel for directions to CiCi's Pizza, there is one located in the shopping centers on that little strip on 535, less than 1 mile from the hotel. Its an all you can eat pizza buffet for around 4 bux a person. it also includes a salad bar, a pasta dish & dessert pizza. your teens could really fill up there!

There is also Pizzaria Uno & TGI Fridays in the Crossroads shopping center (& Chili's too, I think) The McDonalds in the crossroads does have a $1 menu, you just have to ask whats on it because its not listed on the drive thru menu. I know for certain they have spicy chicken sandwiches & small fries for $1 each. There is a Burger King also just down from McDonalds going twards Winn Dixie. I also think there is a Taco Bell in the Crossroads area too.

So is this Crossroads Shopping center right by Hotel Royal Plaza? We don't have a car so walking is our mode of transportation to everywhere but Disney parks. I assume that is where the Grocery store and Fast food is? Thanks for the help.

Belle: I believe Goodings is actually in the Crossroads Shopping Center.

Stanze: mapquest calculates the distance between HRP and Goodings at .64 miles, so it's basically just one kilometer away, easily within walking distance if you're not carrying too many groceries. And there's a nice sidewalk all the way there that parallels Hotel Plaza Boulevard, although crossing over 535 on foot to get to the Crossroads Shopping Center might be a bit hairy.

There's plenty of fast food in the immediate vicinity of Goodings as well; I believe there's a McDonalds, Taco Bell, Miami Subs, etc. etc. all right there.

Good luck.

Sounds like it will be very good on the budget! Are any of those restaurants (near Crossroads) in the Entertainment book I keep reading about or is this a different area?

Don't take that for granted. ;) Goodings may very well be the most expensive grocery store on the planet, at least in comparison to its local competitors. It's a fascinating place; one of the first supermarkets I ever saw that sold sushi, but the prices can be borderline outrageous there. Of course, shopping there will still be cheaper than eating out the whole time, but be prepared to spend around twice as much for the same items than you would back home.

There's a much more reasonably priced Publix supermarket on International Drive across I-4, but you'd need to take a cab to get there. In my opinion, it would be worth the cab fare if you're planning to spend over $100 or so at typical grocery store prices.

Good luck, and have fun!

Crossroads is within walking distance of the HRP, but there is a very busy cross section of road to get over.

Its not 'right by' the HRP though. Maybe a half mile; but I'm guessing.

Crossroads has Goodings, TGIF, Jungle Jims among others. On the 535 turning left at the section is Chilis. Across the road and left the Olive Garden. Plenty of places to walk too...so longas you like playing 'Frogger' on Florida Highways.

I cannot recall if there were pedestrian crossings there or not.

I think some are in the entertainment book but we were given one and would have struggled to get value from it if using it for meals only. Chilis weren't in the book we had, nor Olive Garden but we ate in both like Kings (2 Adults. 2 Children) for $40 (inc. tip)

there is pedistrian crossing with the little buttons on the poles but it is a 6 lane road, 3 lanes going each way so it is a run across the street to make it across.
