We bought a GoPro for our first cruise, and we LOVE it. It depends on which model you got, but in general, yes, they're very simple to use. Just spend a little bit of time getting familiar with it before your trip, so that you know what each button does, and you have a feel for how it films. I second the advice of having a spare battery (or two - they're pretty cheap, and if you have a model with WiFi, the battery can go down fast if you leave the WiFi on), as well as the charger that charges two batteries at a time. Also, we found that a 64GB memory card was plenty large enough to last us on our 3 night cruise, with room to spare. Other accessories I would recommend specifically for cruises are the yellow floaty handle (for use in the water), and the head mount (for filming going down the Aqua Duck especially). We bought this accessory kit, which has practically every accessory we'll probably ever need. Our son loved to film parts of our cruise himself too.
Hubby was looking at the GoPro Black. He liked that it has more frames per second or something like that and that slow mo mode was better and that it would look good on our 4K tv. Something like that cause I really have no idea honestly about techie stuff! But I see such cool videos of people's trips and snorkeling and going down the slide and it's just awesome looking! Plus I can use it when running our races and mud runs!!
