Tell me all about your thoughts on it! Hubby and I are considering getting one to use for various video taking in our life, but are REALLY interested in taking it with us on the Fantasy in October.

Ive been watching videos on youtube that people have taken with them and it almost looks too good to be true?

I know the lovely people of the Dis are full of opinions, which is AWESOME!! I'm hoping you all have a lot of the GoPro too :-) :thumbsup2

Do a Google search for a TV clip of Anderson Cooper interviewing the inventor of GoPro Video Camera. I think it might have been for 60 Minutes. They show a lot of real videos clips and how the camera came about. it was a really interesting interview. It made me want to get one of the cameras. :hyper:

The GoPro is great at what it does... it's small, unobtrusive, and waterproof (in the correct case). It takes good pictures and video.

But just know... there is no viewfinder on the camera. There is no lcd screen on the camera. I believe it's the Hero 3 that has wifi capabilities. You can download an app to your smartphone and control the camera from there (I'm pretty sure the app will show you what you're shooting, but I'm not positive).

I've heard the battery life isn't the best.

Think about how you want to use it. If you just want to take the occasional snapshot, there are plenty of cameras that will do that (maybe not quite as small as the GoPro) AND give you an LCD screen so you know what you're shooting.

If you want a camera to take "action" shots from the POV of the person doing the action (surfing, rock climbing, snorkling, etc), the GoPro may be what you want.

There are lots of various mounts available (sold separately of course). There are also "knock offs" of the GoPro.

Actually GoPro does make an LCD monitor that will attach to the back of the camera but it is a separate buy.

I have two Gopro's that I use for various things: car high speed events(mounted inboard and outboard views), also for zip lining(made for neat views going through the trees). Also have used it for creative views where I didnt want to get my regular camera wet or damaged. GoPro makes several different type of mounts: Head straps, chest mounts, wrist mounts, mounts for bikes or poles. You can even buy a drone that will hold a gopro.

Now I would never substitute it for my regular camera on a trip. Its just too limited. You can have fun with it but its and expensive.

If you want to see what can be done with a gopro(combined with other technology) watch these videos:

I think you are going to be having way too much fun doing other things on your cruise to be video taping. When Im on a cruise, my hands will be occupied. And Im not wearing a camera on my head.

Everyone i know that has a Gopro loves it. They also don't use it as their primary camera. As the above poster said they use it for very specific action shots. For normal pictures and videos they have other cameras

My husband loves this camera but he uses it only for action shots for example during biking or riding a roller coaster.

We don't use it for regular pictures or videos.
