I just got done reading what's permitted in the parks at Disney World and saw that they do not allow selfie sticks. I have a GoPro with the Shorty extension pole and was wondering if anyone has ever taken one of these into the park. When fully extended it's only about 9" long (including the handle).

If anyone knows anything about these being permitted or not I would love to know.

Thanks!

If it extends, and it sounds like it does, I’d expect it to be confiscated.

Under the guidelines published on the Disney website it appears it would not be allowed. They may or may not take it away but it sounds like they could. I'm guessing if they choose to take it away it would be stored for pickup when leaving the park but I'm not positive.

Thing is the guidelines specific refer to "selfie sticks" and most of those are over 2 feet long, as far as I can tell. My GoPro Shorty is only 9" long. I wish they were more specific.

A camera "grip" is ok. Looking at the photo of the shorty, it would be ok if you don't extend it. If they realize that it can be extended at the gate, it might be taken away, although I have seen people using selfie sticks in the park since the ban, so apparently they can slip through.

If they see it extends then they won’t allow it. Doesn’t matter if it’s 9inches or 4 feet. You could possibly get in with it if they don’t notice, I still see people with full on selfie sticks from time to time.

Your best bet is to just use the grip handle or the clamp is another popular

I used mine as a grip with no extending. Used it appropriately and politely on all kinds of rides and while walking in different areas. However, if at any time I had been asked to leave it behind, I would have gladly done so. On my upcoming trip, I'll just be using a standard grip handle.

I think I'll just have to buy a regular grip and leave the Shorty behind. I don't want to risk not having it.
