DS covets this thing (he is an adreneline junkie) and since the Hero 3 has only been out a short time I have not found many reviews (or a sale price :worried:) Has anyone here (Mark B., perhaps?) owned a GoPro or have advice? The silver is retailing for $299 and the black is $399 :scared: so not a light purchase. A few family members would be chipping in so the black *could* be done, but not sure if it is worth the $100 difference?

thanks for any/all help or pointers. This would be the first GoPro DS will own, but he is a quality over quantity kind of guy :goodvibes

I'd go sliver myself and save the cash if it's the exact same model.

Thanks, I was originally thinking the same thing, but they do have differences. One big thing bugging me is battery life...an users out there can confirm if it is frustratingly short or not?

I am thinking DS will prefer the low light performance and higher fps burst in the black edition, but having never owned a GoPro I am not sure if these are really key or not...

Ahh... so they're pretty different model wise not just in specs but in what's included. The included waterproof housing would have me personally leaning to the silver because I'm a scuba diver. It's got more than enough for what I'd use it for.

What does your DS do? Surf? Swim? Skateboard? And what does he plan to do with the images and video he shoots?

For the Black, the 720P/ 120 frames per second is a big attraction to me.

A photowalker last month had one mounted on a hardhat (silver) and walked around for at least 3 hours and still had battery left.He posted some pretty awesome shots from it.I think the difference from the older version to the newest one is they use a micro sd card now I think :confused3 I've been kicking around the idea of getting the silver one for myself too

Thanks all, we decided to go with the black. The waterproof wi-fi controller and better low light capabilities were convincing and the fact that the black does 1080p/60fps. DS also does documentaries (and I know this isn't the best device for them , but should come in handy) Anyway, should be a fun new toy! I really appreciate the helpful posts!
I have a funny feeling this new device will be the *inspiration* for a return trip to Colorado...water rafting, snowboarding..the initial $400 is just the tip of the iceberg, lol!
