Hey Everyone! My brother and I will be coming to the World for a small week trip. I plan on purchasing a GoPro Camera either as a birthday gift to myself. I want to bring it with us to WDW, but want some tips using it. Anyone ever used a GoPro at WDW or DL and have any tips or what other items to buy along with it?

THANKS!

just spent a week at WDW using GoPro at all the parks. IMO, the GoPole is a must have. Grab an extra battery too.

What housing did you use with your GoPro? And besides GoPole any other attachments?

I used the waterproof housing that comes with the camera.

GoPole was the only accessory I used. I found it to be very versatile - extends to 40" for capturing self footage, or not as long for POV footgae. I also used it as a monopod to help get steady footage while at some of the shows, etc.

Oh perfect! Wasn't sure which housing everyone seemed to have been using. Now that I know it is the standard one makes it so much easier. By the way great vacation video! Did you feel the GoPro to be comfortable walking around with on the GoPole?

GoPro comes with one housing, but 2 backs. One back is waterproof. No problems using the GoPole at the parks.

Yes, the GoPro comes with 2 backs. We used the skeleton door (non-waterproof). It will be better for sound since it has an open back.

We also have the Hero 4 Black, and while shooting in 4K or using wifi, the camera will get super hot. Battery life takes a serious hit when it does gets too warm. Once it cools down a bit, it seems like it gains some battery life back. But the skeleton door will dissipate the heat faster than the waterproof door.

Either way, get an extra battery. I couldn't find an extra battery when ordering mine. So, I bought the dual-battery charger and that came with an extra battery.
BONUS: Since the charger uses USB you can charge it up with a portable battery charger that people use to charge phones on the go.

We used this pole. The handle is rubber and grips well. It's a small 7 inches that fits nicely in your hands. But will extend to 19 inches if you need the height. We didn't feel the need for anything taller.

I used a pole by Platinum that, similar to other poles, ranges from 9-27". It was all I needed at the parks - collapsed down small for walking around, extended out for capturing footage on the rides (usually rested it on the ride car in front of me to steady it, with the camera pointed back to capture us on the ride).

You can't use the stick on the rides at the water parks, but can handhold the camera itself.

Definitely bring both back doors to the camera. The sound quality is terrible with the waterproof door, so you'll want to use the skeleton door as much as possible. I have a few snippets of video where I left the waterproof door on because I got lazy about swapping them in and out, and really wish that my audio were better!

The Wasabi brand batteries and charger you can buy on eBay are half the cost of the GoPro brand batteries but just as good. I have four batteries total and have them marked with a Sharpie marker 1, 2, 3, 4. I charge them all up at night and then use them in order. When 1 is drained, I swap it out for 2, etc. That way you always know which batteries are charged and which ones are dead.

sound quality is def better with the skeleton back.

i second the Wasabi batteries, think i picked mine up on Amazon - 2 pk w dbl charger for around $25. They perform just fine.

As long as you keep the wifi to a minimum, I only need to swap batteries once a day.

Everyone! Thanks so much! Will be using the skeleton back door for everything, but water rides! Also, purchased the XShot 2.0 GoPro Pole and the Dual Wasabi battery packs with the dual charger. Looking at buying maybe a chest mount or head mount. Overall so looking forward to using my GoPro at Disney World in January.

You have all inspired me with your videos and looking forward to trying out my hand with the Hero4 Silver in the parks.

Anyone bring there GoPro to Universal?

We just got back from a 6 day trip and I ditched my Nikon DSLR for the GoPro and made a trip video. I'd never used it before but thought WDW would be a good opportunity to try it out. I had a hand grip rather than a pole and took it on all of the rides (except Rockn' Roller Coaster). I found it does not do well in low light. All of my dark ride footage came out too dark. I also had the waterproof casing on the whole time so the sound quality was pretty terrible. I set my video to music though so it wasn't an issue. I really had fun with it and plan to use it again on future trips.
Here's my 3 min trip video :goodvibes

That is a fabulous idea! I have 3 batteries...I'm numbering them now!
