Google Voice~who has it and does it work?

I signed up for Google Voice over a month ago and the number I was given when called gives the message "We're sorry your # cannot be completed as dialed, please check the # and dial again" I filed my problem with Google appropriately but haven't heard anything back and it still isn't working. However I can dial out long distance for free using it by using their system to have it call me, then it rings my phone, I pick up and my call is connected.

I was just wondering what others of you might be experiencing with it.

I've had an account for a couple of years when they were Grand Central (pre-Google days). I love it. I never give out my regular cell phone number at all anymore. I have it ring my cell phone and work phone at the same time.

I'm sorry you are having trouble, maybe they will be back to you quickly with a fix.

I've been using Google Voice for about a month. I am still in the experimenting stages but basically, I want it for a "junk" number as we are phasing out our home phone. I don't give out my cell number to retail stores or when I order something online and they ask for a number. Currently, my Google Voice number is set to ring into voice mail and it sends me a text of any message that was left. The texts usually aren't very accurate but it gives me enough of an idea to let me know if I need to call in to check the message immediately or if it can wait until later.

Right now, I've only given out the number to a few places and I've only received two messages but I think it will definately serve the purpose that I want to use it for!

I've had it for a couple of years (got it when it was still GrandCentral). The best thing about it has been that we've moved or changed cell phone numbers a couple of times, but I haven't had to give most people our new numbers because they had my GrandCentral/Google Voice number, and once I updated that account upon each phone number everything was fine.

Did you get any emails or anything from Google Voice where you had to verify the phone numbers you'd entered as yours by taking a call on those numbers from them and putting in a code or something like that? I know I had to do something like that back when it was GrandCentral before the account was verified and my number started working. If that's not what it is, I hope you get it straightened out soon. For many reasons, this is a really useful service, I think.
