My son wants to use Google Glass while in DW. I know filming while on the rides or attractions is not allowed however, you are able to film while walking through the parks. Does anyone have any idea on whether or not google glass is allowed in the parks? Does anyone have any experience using Google glass in the parks? Thanks

I would call disney, there is likely only 1 other person on this whole site that has google glass likely.

It won't a problem.

And for that matter, as many peopl are throwing flashes in pirates and small word etc., filming without a light on nobody will care.

Well...I don't know why he would want to, but unless he's told not to I suppose he could.

But...

Google says we cannot expect to wear Google Glass and “expect to be ignored.”

also...

Ask for permission. Standing alone in the corner of a room staring at people while recording them through Glass is not going to win you any friends (see Don’ts #4). The Glass camera function is no different from a cell phone so behave as you would with your phone and ask permission before taking photos or videos of others.

Now, no one asks for permission to videotape with a normal videocamera. But it's obvious that you're in the region of someone filming. With glass it isn't. Especially if you've never seen them. So he'll be able to get a lot closer to people, without them being aware that he's filming, than usual. That can feel rude to people.

And once they notice...

[Don't] Be creepy or rude .... Respect others and if they have questions about Glass don’t get snappy. Be polite and explain what Glass does and remember, a quick demo can go a long way.

That means when people notice they will be asking. Does he want to spend his entire vacation with that conversation?

I was in line with someone at Walgreens and noticed his. He's just standing there, buying cotton balls, and has to get into yet another conversation about them. Of course, our conversation started when I noticed his awesome and fun Lego stud post earrings, which is when he turned around and I saw his face. Cue conversation about TWO things he's wearing on his head.

I personally would grow weary of this. Then again, I don't videotape things in the parks. I take still pictures. With my very obvious camera that people can notice and stop walking if they don't want to be in the picture.

Thank you.

My son has read all the info concerning the proper "etiquette" of google glass. He would use this just like any other device to record or take a photograph. Just because the format is different, it does not follow that he would be using it to film other people. He would merely be taking a picture or recording something that has to do with our family and our vacation.

While you can film and record that is only one of it's 7 functions. The glasses will help to navigate, provide any info on the parks talk to his friends etc. He is really looking forward to using all its features while on vacation.

I agree with your point about sharing info on the glasses when asked. That would become tiring to me. However, my son has been enthusiastically sharing this info well before it's rollout and is very excited to continue to talk about the glasses with anyone.

What a great idea to film walking through the parks! I have always wanted a video like that to plop in front of me while on the treadmill. It would be like I'm walking/running thru the world rather than on a boring treadmill.

The problem with shooting video with a camera attached to a person's head, is that the image will swish wildly "out of control" (and lose focus) as the person turns and looks around. Plus, even with "steady-shot" compensation, there
will be much "bouncing" of the image as the person walks.

There are already some very nice "walking through the parks" videos that were recorded from rolling vehicles (ECV) with a camera elevated and locked forward. Much smoother tracking.

Since when is filming on Disney rides not allowed? I've filmed all three times I've been to Disney as long as the attraction didn't specifically indicate no filming was allowed which I always respect.

Actually with advancing technology there are cameras that eliminate the "shake" effect. Just picked one up a few weeks ago and its amazing how it holds steady with big movements. Can't wait to break it in at Disney this year.
