DAY 6 - 20th December 2005

Weather Report: Cloud, some sun. Cool evening.

A Bit of Shopping and The Osbourne Lights

We were feeling really knac.. errr tired the night before. Because of the cooler weather we seemed to be in the parks and walking all day. When we have been before in the summer or October we have taken our time because of the heat and had afternoon rests by the hotel pool.
So we decided to take it easy today and have a nice lie-in and a nice breakfast at Tubbies. I think I had toast with a side of sausage and bacon.

After breakfast we headed to Downtown Disney for some retail therapy and a Ghirarelli's sundae for lunch!

Dining Review:
Me, Julie and Jade - Hot Fudge Sundae. What can I say! YUM!!!!
Nicola - Cable Car Sundae - Looked nice!
No drinks
Total cost - $29.61

Hot Fudge Sundae - a bit blurred!

Cable Car Sundae - again a bit blurred!

After our sundaes we did a tour of the shops, (can't remember what was purchased, although DDs wanted to buy a bike each!):

And then we headed back to the Dolphin to change and head out to MGM to see the famous Osbourne Lights.
We caught the boat from the Swan/Dolphin dock and sat back and enjoyed the slowwwww ride to MGM.
On arriving in MGM we headed to the Backlot Express for some dinner.

Dining Review:
Me and Jade - Burger and Fries - quite nice but need a toppings bar!
Julie - Hotdog and Fries
Nicola - Chicken Strips and Fries
Drinks - 4 cokes
Total cost - $34.53

After dinner we headed to see the lights. This is the first time we have seen them 'in the flesh' so to speak. They really take your breath away, especially with the Christmas music and the snow falling :)
Julie videod as we walked round the streets (did I mention that she was the family movie director and cinematographer!).
After dragging ourselves away from the lights we really wanted to get our of MGM before Fantasmic ended to beat the rush, but we walked past the new Narnia attraction, so we went in to see what it was like. All I can say is - what a waste of time! Basically you are shown into a room with some fake snow on the floor, surrounded by fake trees and your shown a short film on the making of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. As you exit the room you walk past a handfull of props from the film. I'm sure Disney could have done a bit better than that!
We just managed to get to the boat before the Fantasmic rush and after collecting our mugs headed to Tubbies for a snack (for me this was usually a packet of Lays :) ), headed off to bed.

The quiter day seemed to have done us good and we were looking forward to playing golf tomorrow and meeting Lorraine et al at Boma :)

Another great day Tim, I really liked the Osborne lights too. We never bothered with the Narnia set, and now I'm glad we didn't. I look forward to the next installment :)

Another great day Tim ~ Thanx for posting.

Mmmmm Ghiradellis :hyper:

Those sundaes looked lovely Tim - hope they helped recharge your batteries ;)

am really enjoying reading your report, christmas sounds magical at disney but not warm enough to swim?? you are bringing it all back especially the dinosaur ride (which we feel very differently about!!!). cant wait to read the rest,
thanks, prue

Great report again Tim, really enjoying them :) Those Sundaes are just the best I agree ::yes::

Sue :cutie:

We were really looking forward to the Narnia walk through. But we were not sure it would still be there by the time we go in October and thought perhaps POTC walk through would be there (heard a rumour!) but now hope it will be POTC instead of Narnia after reading your report.

Enjoying reading your reports and I agree those Sundaes look rather good. :)

I loved the osbourne lights too - quite breathtaking as you said. those sundaes look great must get round to one some day.

Thanks once again. I'm enjoying these

Love the trip reports. We just got back a week ago from a fabulous trip, first time seeing the Christmas decorations. I have to agree with you on two points, the Osbourne lights were spectacular but Narnia was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. After waiting 15 minutes outside we were led into a small room with a giant wardrobe, the wardrobe door opens and everyone is led into another room with snow and trees and a movie screen. We watched a screener of the movie and everyone turned thinking we are about to go into a large wharehouse with movie sets, props, costumes etc.. only to find ourselves outside again..... show over. By the way we actually saw the movie at Downtown Disney several days later and everyone enjoyed it. :earsboy:

Love reading everyones trip reports.

Great report Tim - I'm reading yours instead of writing mine! :rotfl:

Can't believe those sundaes cost almost as much as a "real" meal with drinks!

Looked very tasty though :)
