The Lord mayor of London was having a problem with a monster in the River Thames.
This monster was eating barges, and sailors and just being a general nuisance. So the Mayor asked Charles Dickens if he would write an ad for the London Times for someone to kill the monster.
A brave soul reponded to the ad and slew the huge monster. He suggested making sausage out of the monster so the orphans of London could have a good meal.
Charles Dickens thought this was a fabulous idea and the next day he wrote the headlines for the London Times....
......."It was the beast of Thames;
it was the wurst of Thames."
