We just got back from our first DVC stay at BWV. First of all, our one bedroom was beautiful - nicer than my real home! We bought our DVC points last year over the phone and charged it to our VISA. We had never gone on a tour or anything. It was quite unlike the way I usually do things but I got a lot of information here and was confident about by decision.

As I mentioned, I have gotten a lot of valuable information here but truthfully, I take a lot of it with a grain of salt. For example, a number of people have complained about how expensive Goodings is. While I am sure that it is expensive, I live in New York and am accustomed to paying more than anyone else in the country for everything. How expensive could Goodings be? The answer for those of you who don't know is VERY. I really was shocked. Next time I'll pay closer attention to the exact address of Publix and Albertson's. I had taken some notes from this board but I never did find an alternative to Goodings except the General Store on the Boardwalk (which was cheaper)!

I'll never take your posts with a grain of salt again!

I have to admit I thought the same thing when I read all the complaints about Goodings. I mean, how expensive can they be? (we're from Boston) LOL, I'll make sure we stick with Publix. :D

Have you ever paid $7 for a pound of Oscar Mayer bacon? We did at Goodings! An 8 oz. package was $3.25 at the General Store on the Boardwalk.

It's a beautiful convenient store....but they sure do make you pay. (All the "regular" Gooding's have been sold to Winn-Dixie. They only kept the tourist cash cow stores.)

If you need soda, bread, milk, etc. the gas station convenience store across from PI actually has more reasonable prices than Gooding's. Publix is only about 10 minutes further than Gooding's and once you've been there it's easy to find again. I think it's worth the extra time to get soda, butter, juice etc. at "regular" prices.

I am not sure how, but I stumbled onto a Publix about 10 minutes from Downtown Disney. I, too, thought Goodings was very expensive, so I turned left out of the Downtown Disney/Crossroads entrance(instead of going straight across into the Crossroads)and went through a few lights and some construction, but Publix was on the left side at an intersection. I am sorry I can't be more specific...I am horrible with street names and directions. we plan on going to the super Wal-mart on our next trip to buy groceries(and park tickets for our neighbors who will be with us)because I found out on this board that the prices were reasonable. :)

hi: we stopped at albertson's this last trip- got some wonderful directions. this will be our shopping place from now on. it's just off exit 11 of 417(greeneway). you get right back on at the same spot. when you take the south exit from the airport, you will be heading onto 417, and you can see albertson's from the road. it is very easy to get to, and prices were a touch higher than publix but the store was much cleaner and well laid out.

The last time we were at Goodings, my dh needed a pair of nail clippers. He didn't pay attention to the price, but I did. I couldn't believe they wanted $18!!!!! For a pair of nail clippers????

That's the last time we went there and were happy to find Publix about 5 minutes further down the road. It definitely isn't like our grocery store here in Rochester (Wegmans or Tops), but it was much more reasonably priced that Goodings.

There is also a Super Walmart down on Route 192 where we not only buy groceries but Disney souvenirs, too.

We used to go to a Goodings that was a little bit further way from Disney World. It was up on Sand Lake Road about 1 or 2 miles west of I4. Their prices were always a lot cheaper than the location there in the crossroads center. There was also an Albertson's in the same strip mall set up and a Pubix not too far from that. They are all in more of a residential area so they are probably more competitive in price. Goodings always was a little more upscale than either Publix of Alberton's though.

Until about a year ago, Gooding's operated 12 retail grocery stores in the Central Florida area. Then, on June 2, 2000, Gooding's announced the sale of 9 of their supermarkets to a major grocery chain, Winn-Dixie -- leaving Gooding's with just 3 locations: International Drive, Lake Buena Vista (Crossroads) and Celebration.

I continue to consider the Gooding's at Crossroads to be a good place to pick up a few items when staying at Old Key West. Yes, it costs more, but my vacation time is valuable. It's open 24 hours, has a good selection, and is so convenient.

But I'd rather stock up for the week at Publix (International Drive at Highway 192).

Thanks to everyone for the alternatives to Goodings. I took more careful notes this time!
