Goodbye, Space Mountain (for me anyhow)

When we went in June I thought that Space Mountain really jerked me around. I've been on it every trip prior, but I chalked it up to being 50 (now 51). I told DH I thought I was done with it.
I forgot on our 4 day weekend in October and rode it again. Coming off I told DH "I forgot that I swore off this ride after June."
Our FP date is tomorrow and I asked DH if he minded if we skipped it and he said fine. If we had any of the kids with us we wouldn't but looks like I'll be spending that FP on Splash or the Mine Train. :(

I pretty much agree with that assessment.

I haven't been on Space Mountain at WDW for about six years now. So sad, since it used to be a favorite. But it gave me a sore neck and a headache the last few times I rode it and I also said....not again. Last June I did ride the Space Mountain at Disneyland and had a great experience! That ride is so much smoother.

I can ride in the front seat without issue, although the back and middle seats bother me. The last few times, they were kind enough to let me wait for that seat. The front is smoother, if you still want to try and ride it.

DW and I gave up SM about two years ago. Sad, but it's just too jerky for us anymore; not at all enjoyable. The last time we rode it, old style paper FPs were still the norm. Grabbed FPs first for later, then rode standby. Never went back for our FP ride.

DL's SM in Anaheim is still great, however.

I agree with you too. Heck, even our kids don't want to go on because it's too jerky and that's saying something because it used to be a family favorite.

I know my wife fully agrees with you. I could go either way, but as long as my daughter wants to do it, I will always join her. Hopefully the ride will get DLR's makeover.

Now, Dinosaur! on the other hand, I am D.O.N.E. with. Jerky. Headache inducing. Loud. And a lame story line. Last time we rode it, my wife said: "Why do we even bother with that ride? It breaks down more often than it works, and I am not sure that any of us enjoy it." We all agreed and swore it off then and there.

Ha, I thought I was the only one. I had never ridden it before I was 37, and after I thought, wow, my neck is killing me, I'm all set with that ride. I really need to be able to anticipate the turns to brace my head and neck and that is impossible unless you have the ride completely memorized. Oh well, I still see long lines for it so there are plenty who aren't affected.

I'll join that club as well. I generally get motion sickness on things that spin, but I love rollercoasters so I just tolerate it most of the time. But this.. oh my. I came off of it and thought I was either going to pass out, throw up, or fall over. That stuck with me for the rest of the day, too! Dinosaur's another one I tend not to do. I think I'm done with Space!

Are the asteroids still visible? It seems like the past couple times I rode it a few years ago, you could no longer see the asteroids flying by.

Ditto! I love rollercoasters and don't usually have issue. Space used to be a favorite--we'd ride, exit, and get right back in line. This past trip, however, I walked off and felt so ill. We went to Monsters Inc. so I could sit down and rest and it wasn't until well after that that I started to perk back up. Not sure if I'll be brave enough to try it again for one last time in November...

My hubby sat behind me last year on it. As soon as it stopped, he asked me why I was bobbing and shaking my head so much on the ride! I told him that it wasn't done on purpose! I guess he didn't feel it like I did! :(

I've always loved space mountain, but we didn't even go on it this year.

DH and I went on it in January 2014. As we were walking out to meet up with my parents and our kids I said, "I must be getting old, but I don't care if I ever go on that again!" It was so jerky, and it just seemed to hit in the worst spot in my back. I was 43 years old. This year, at the ripe old age of 44... I didn't even want to bother.

I pretty much agree with that assessment.

Ditto. I love roller coasters, but not this one. We did ride it this year because my kids wanted to, but if not for them I would have happily skipped it.

I pretty much swore off SM several years ago, too. I may have been in my 20s, but after riding, my back felt like I was in my 90s. I'd probably still ride if my kids wanted to and my husband couldn't go for some reason. The only other ride I make a point of avoiding is Primeval Whirl, and that's because I don't like the cheap, carnival ride look and feel (which doesn't come close to normal Disney standards).

A few times a go, i about killed my tailbone. Did some drop, amd turn and I fell wrong back down. Then I had it figured out I slouch down towards the front ( curve my spine). If I sit straight and hit hard back down outch!!!

I don't ride it anymore either. Ends up working well though, because my son won'r ride it. Now my DH and DD ride Space Mountain while I take my son for another ride on Buzz.

I agree with you - much too jerky for me anymore. I think the worst thing is that you can't 'see' the next movement and prepare yourself, so that makes it pretty hard on your neck - mine, anyway! :(

It is still a favorite of mine, and I'm over 50. I ride it several times each trip. I have had to limit my rides on upside down roller coasters like Rock N Roller Coaster (and Hulk and Dragon Challenge) to once each trip because they give me a headache.
