Goodbye Delta Express

We are flying delta exptress in Dec and so far no change.

and I just happened to find out about it today. They did it 2 weeks ago and yet they never contacted me!!!!However, I was able to rebook and now I'm leaving out of Newark and coming home on a 5:00pm flight instead of an 8:00am flight. This is even better than leaving out of JFK since I'm closer to Newark. They didn't charge me a dime to make all these changes-Delta is laying off 8000 workers according to the rep I spoke to.Now I just hope they don't change my flight again before we leave in Dec.

Random thoughts...

If Comair is related to Delta and taking over where Delta Express is discontinued, weren't the two overlapping and redundant to being with?

Recheck your flights every week, so if something changeas you have a good shot at a good rebooking.

8000 employees laid off? What flights are being cancelled as a result?

They called me last week to let me know that my flight number had changed. I checked online and saw my seats had changed too. I went from row 4 to row 23, ugh. They changed to a bigger plane. The rep I talked to never mentioned that my seats changed also. I would've like to have know, because I could've, maybe, gotten better seats. Since we leave out of Wash. DC, I imagine service wouldn't be cut too bad considering our area. We leave this week. So far, my return flight still looks the same, other than it leaves 10 minutes later than when I booked.

Comair and ASA (Atlantic Southeast Airlines) are wholly owned subsidiaries of Delta, and are considered REGIONAL airlines. Both of these use 50-seat CRJ (Canadian Regional Jet) aircraft primarily. Delta Express uses larger aircraft. CRJs are replacing the larger aircraft on shorter routes that have low load factors but still can make money. First the aircraft are smaller, so not as large fuel cost. Also flight crews are paid less on Comair and ASA, so there are savings on employee costs. CRJs are a great aircraft and will become more prevelant over the next few years, especially from medium and small airports feeding into other hubs. Some airlines are ordering the 70 seat CRJs so you may begin to see some of those as well.
