I subscribed to it! Hey question- so far most that I’ve read on here or been told is a june UY would be great for August OR Nov/ Dec travel. However-
dvc resale site says this “an October “Use Year” for someone that consistently travels in November would be ideal because if they cancel that November trip within 30 days of checking in they still have until October 1st of the following year to use those points.”
Should I ask in here in the forum what makes better sense? I was printing out June UY resale listings only, but now I don’t know
I’m kind of on the fence on how important the use year is, in general, only because you’re planning on traveling two kind of separate timeframes. I think I would consider which resort you’d want home resort advantage for that season.
Like, your November/December trips for the holidays, if you’re pretty confident you want MK/GF/CC, those are small resorts that book up instantly, and I would want an October use year. Realistically, do you expect to cancel holiday trips?
Since you’re starting from scratch resale, I think I would be open to almost any use year except December since that could be a PITA with holiday trips. If you’re using DVC to it’s best advantage and booking your home resort at 11 months and putting a reminder on your phone at 7 months to modify, you shouldn’t have a huge problem with your reservations. Whatever you decide on resale, just consider matching UY if you do direct later on.
We have a September UY because when we bought, our kids were 6 and 7, not involved in sports and rigorous academic schedules, and the “cheap” points season was the first two weeks of December, dovetailing nicely into holiday decorations and 3/4 family birthdays.
Now we pretty much have to travel February vacation, April vacation, Thanksgiving week, or in the dead of summer. I can envision a spring/summer use year being better for us since those are now our more probable travel times. Your kids’ schedules will dictate and change when you’re going to go anyway.
I would look for the first resale contract at your desired resort and not stress too much about which use year it is if the price is right.
What I WOULD do is buy DVC
travel insurance. It’s pretty cheap, and that’s helpful for last-minute snafus.
