Good way to carry around memory cards?

I use to carry my 2 extra memory card in the "dvd-type" case that it comes in.

But it is taking a bit of space in my carry-on...since I'm bringing a few other multimedia things in there as well.

But at the same time.... I'm afraid of loosing my cards if I just carry them in the mini transparent plastic case it comes in.

Any tips?

Thanks!

I usually keep mine in a pocket of my camera bag. When I don't have that, I just stick them in my pocket.

If you put them in your pocket, I advise taking them out before putting them in the wash.

AAHHH so that's where I went wrong???

:lmao:

For the record, memory cards survive the wash better than batteries!!! BUt I wholeheartedly agree with removing them from your pocket as well.

They make little memory card wallets to carry your media in. I normally just keep mine in the bag or in my pocket as well... but will likely buy one of the wallets before our next trip to keep up with mine, DH's, DS's and DD's memory cards. We all have our own cameras and they all take different memory cards.

I was thinking of putting them into their small transparent cases and into a ziplock bag.

Would that be bad?

i got a zipping memory card case at walmart for under 2 dollars( think it was $1.99, genuine pleather) that holds 8 cards and then i just put it in one of the zipper mesh pockets in my bag. i bought it almost a yr ago so price could be higher or lower now

what kind of cards - CF or SD? i have a Lowepro memory card wallet that you can get at just about any camera store and probably target, best buy, etc.

it's neoprene and padded and fits nicely into any pocket of my camera bag *or* on my belt. i face all of the cards label out. when a card is put back in the holder (with pictures) it's put in label in. it holds 6 cf cards (or sd cards in the small cases) plus one long pocket for holding something else (i have business cards in it).

the next time i go to japan, i'm going to pickup some really nicely padded zipper pockets with dense foam and also aluminium ones for travel.

We have one of those little wallets. It works really well. My only complaint is that it's not water proof, so we still put it in a ziploc bag while we are at the parks. Maggie

Was that in the camera dept?? That sounds perfect for me!

I use SD cards. I keep them in the little clear plastic containers. I then put them in a small zippered case that hold 2 cards. (I have 2 of these, thinking about getting 1 that holds 4 cards.) I also store them label out if unused, and label in if used.

I found some nice little black leather (probably simulated) business card holders at OfficeMax that hold four CF cards in their plastic cases. I put a piece of a Post-It in the bottom of the plastic case to show if the CF card is blank or full, right side up is blank and ready to use.

Leaving the card in your pocket for a wash cycle may be the low cost way of cleaning up noise on the images! Add bleach to improve the white balance. ;)

If you have SD cards, I have this strap from Lowepro. It hold 2 extra cards, plus the one I have in my camera, so I about 4gig on me.

you are all so organized!..i put it in the camera and if it's full look at the first photo to see what it is...guess marking them would be easier/less time consuming..course then i'd be wondering if i remembered to mark them or if the mark was from last time...just like i forget to take my pills and have to count how many are left everyday:rolleyes: ..I just need a new brain...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

this also works great for hi key portraits

I have the same lowepro wallet...it works great..

I never thought of putting extra business cards in the long pocket until you mentioned it...I put some in before forgetting...thanks for the idea...:thumbsup2

I keep mine in the little plastic snap containers that they come in. I wouldn't go too overboard on protecting them - as long as you don't actually bend the cars enough to damage the circuit board inside, they'll probably survive just fine in most anything, including the pocket of your pants. They're pretty sturdy.
