Good Walking Shoes

Hokas are to bulky and have too much of a heel-to-toe drop for me now.
I've been wearing Altras recently and love them, specifically Altra Torin 7s

I do agree, they are bulky and take getting used to. I'll have to check out Altras though.

I live in Canada so I don't think we have Road Runner Sports or if Hokas are sold here. I will be checking stores here. To add to it all, I have very wide feet. So, not easy buying shoes or boots. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks!
My spouse just noticed that there is a Hoka store in Orlando. Might be something to check out during your next trip.

Does anyone have suggestions of good walking shoes. I walk quite a bit each day outside and sometimes have sore feet. Time to look for a proper pair of walking shoes. Right now it is winter and wearing boots doesn't help. Looking forward to spring....

Any suggestions?
If you’re in Canada, try the running room. They sell New Balance, Hokas, etc. all the main brands and they can help with fit, etc. Sport Chek has many brands as well and are very helpful. I have New Balance fresh foam and a New Balance specific walking shoe (I don’t know the model) and I have a lot of foot issues. They’re really good.

Will have to check these stores out. Not sure if we have them in Quebec or if they go under another name. Thanks!

We have a store called Fleet Feet. The measure your walking pattern, step, weight, etc. then recommend different shoes. Typically for me it’s Hokas or Brooks. Brooks works best for me as I have a wider than average foot.

Hope this helps.

Most recently I’ve been wearing On Cloud cloudmonster running shoes for Disney or similar situations. Very lightweight but big soles for standing on concrete. Very easy to dry out in the event of rain. I’ve also used Hokas or New Balance in the past few years.

Brooks also has some good lightweight running shoes that I’ve tried on but haven’t bought yet.

I wear Brooks and love them. They are wide enough for my feet and very comfortable. I wear them all day at Universal and never have sore feet.

With ankle and knee issues (I'm an overpronator) my physical therapist years ago recommended a couple of specific models based on my walking style. One was a Brooks and the other an Asics. I have been buying the same Asics shoe online for 20+ years, it is not any of the models sold in most stores. I go through 2 pairs a year. I have to keep an eye out because I need a wide size and they are not always in stock.

You really need to find what is right for your specific feet.

A lot of good suggestions here. I like going to a shoe store that is specifically for hard to fit feet. I’ve had good luck with Brooks, they have ‘EE width’ and a higher toe box. I used to have custom orthotics that helped, where they wrap your feet and cast it, but Medicare doesn’t pay for it and they were worn out. My podiatrist sold me a professional orthotic insert for my Brooks that is only available thru a doctor’s office ($60) that felt so good I went back and bought a second pair for my other shoes so I wouldn’t have to change them back and forth. Good luck!

As many have said, go to a store that will measure, fit, adust to your foot. I wear New Balace and they have a machine that measures your foot, instep and arch. Other good "foot" stores will do that for no charge.

Thank you for all the great ideas. I will be checking into them.

In the meantime, I had forgotten I bought a pair of running shoes from Amazon. Made for wide feet. For the last few days, I have been wearing them in the house. My feet feel good. The brand is Easy~Spirit. They are bit bulky but they fit well. Anxious for our snow to disappear so I can try walking with them outside.

Will be looking into other shoes as I walk a lot.

Thanks!

I wear only Skechers or New Balance shoes. I have size 13 extra wide feet. These two brands are the only ones with the comfort and durability to keep up.

It’s interesting that so many people are recommending Skechers. I don’t have any but my kid likes them. The problem is that they always fall apart much much quicker than adidas, which is the kid’s second favorite. Maybe the kids versions aren’t as good?

As a front line outdoor CM, I went through a pair of sneakers/walking shoes every six months. I tried Skechers and they were the worst of all the shoes I tried, it was a one and done.

Wear whatever shoes are most comfortable to you in your daily life, walking, grocery shopping, etc. I work in a public library and do a lot of walking throughout the day, but still nothing like a park day. I love a certain style of Skechers, and I probably have about 15-20 pairs of them in various colors that I rotate to match outfits. I never wear the same pair two days in a row, and that has been the biggest helper for me with foot/leg/back pain, even at the parks.

I love my Easy Spirits!

I buy my go to on clouds every time I go. When you’re walking miles a day they are cushioning the steps.
