I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten a good walk-up rate at a Disney resort.

DH and I were wondering what we would do if we got rained out one day, and decided to extend our vacation - is there any chance that there could be a good walk-up rate at one of the resorts?

Has this ever happened to anyone?

I am pretty sure they would charge you rack rate at the front desk but you might be able to get a deal if you call reservations.

On our last trip, we arrived a day earlier than planned and had to stay one night at Carribean Beach. I am pretty sure we paid rack rate. No deal for us.

We have extended stays by one night at least 3 times at WDW (we were FL residents and sometimes decided just not to go home) - we paid rack rate every time. Including once when we were on the 4/3 package offer staying CL lagoon view @ the Poly - that was a super expensive one night at rack rate!

Disney does not offer last minute rates. If there is an offer available at the time, and a room available under the offer, and you're still in the booking window for the offer, you could ask for that, but that's about it.

Yes we have extended trips. We used the Annual Pass discount. If you qualify for any discounts you can use them. You have to call reservations to book. The resorts will offer you rack rate. It definetely not true that you have pay rack rate on a "day of reservation". I have also arrived a day early. I called from the airport and was able to book CSR with a Ap discount. I got to the resort an hour later. I hate when people are given wrong info on these boards.

It is true that you can use available discounts; the problem is, discounts are not often available day-of. Disney tends to do time-limited discounts, on certain resorts and room types. Even the AP discount may not be available day-of on the resort or room type you're looking for.

OP, go with the assumption that you'll be paying rack-rate, but do ask about any available discounts.

Generally you pay rack rate. The only time we tried this we paid rack rate and it was a slow time of year

I got a great rate at Pop one time walking up. Well, kind of....My wife and I were traveling with our two sons aged 16, our daughter 18 and one of her friends. We had two rooms at Pop. Well, it was our anniversary...:cool1::thumbsup2 and I went to the front desk that morning and asked if they had another room...:cool2:. Got it for $79. Now it was May and not busy at all, but great rate none the less. I think the CM kind of knew what I was doing but hey :drive:

We arrived one day early one trip and when I tried to check in I could only get rack rate. But the CM was very helpful and told me that if I call CRO and added the day to my reservation, that I could probably get the AP rate. I called right there in front of the CM and she had the information in her computer before I hung up the phone.

Our friends booked a deluxe CL room at BWI using the spring discount earlier this year. When they arrived at BWI last month, the room they booked was not available and they received a 2-bedroom suite at BC instead. They decided to stay longer, and the CM at the front desk allowed them to add one night in the 2-bedroom suite for spring discount BWI deluxe room rate.

You were just lucky they still had rooms available under the AP discount promotion. They alot only so many rooms at each resort for each promotion. The first time I stayed at POP Century several years ago I was booked under the AP discount. I walked in, took one look at the screaming kids running through the lobby, and thought no way. When I got to the desk I asked the CM about switching to another resort and she said I could, but I'd be paying rack rate if an AP discount was not available for that resort and that I'd be better off calling CRO myself. I got out of line and called CRO. I was told there were no longer any AP rooms available at CSR, POFQ, or PORS for those particular dates. CBR was the only moderate that still had rooms available under the AP discount or I could use the AP discount at two of the All Stars (forgot which two, but the third didn't have any AP discounted rooms available either). I'm not a fan of CBR, so chose to stay at POP. I could have gotten a room at rack rate at any of them.

Once I did a split stay at AKL and CSR using my AP discount for both. The day before my CSR reservation was to start, I called to see if I could just extend my stay at AKL for the whole week. After checking she said there were no more pool view rooms available at AKL under the AP discount for those days and I'd either have to pay rack rate to keep my pool view or I could upgrade to Concierge level and use the AP discount, as there was neither any standard, pool, or regular savanna view rooms available for the AP discount. I chose to do my split stay and just moved over to CSR like I had originally planned.

In both instances, since I already had rooms booked under the AP discount, I could have moved to another resort and kept my AP discount, as long as the resort I wanted to move to still had rooms available under the AP discount. Even if the dates had passed for booking under those AP discounts, they said I still could have moved or even added days onto my current reservation. The problem both times was that there were no more rooms alotted for that promotion at the resorts for days I wanted.

before you go look into room only discounts. We managed to leave one day early for a trip - called on the way down. They couldn't add a night onto our existing AS Music reservation but I did get the room only discount for CB for one night. I knew before leaving the room only discount was still 'active' (the window hadn't closed) so just needed to find a hotel that had availability.

This isn't quite the same thing, but I'll throw my story out there. In Feb 2010 we stayed at POFQ under the 4/3 deal. On our departure day (after we checked out and went to MK until our ME pickup) we received word that our flight was canceled because of winter storms at home. We got back to the hotel and I went to the concierge desk to inquire about getting a room for the night. Disney was very gracious and got us a room for the same price we'd paid per night the rest of the week so I got the room for well under rack rate. Of course, they'd already sent our luggage ahead to MCO so that was another issue, but at least we had a place to sleep!

I imagine the only discounts you might be able to get as a walk-up (with no reservation extension, etc.) is with an AP or AAA. We had to add a night last year due to Hurricane Irene. We were at BC, but they were sold out so we moved over to YC. I had originally booked with a room-only discount, but they could not extend that rate to me as the time frame had expired, but were able to apply an AAA discount.
