Shell, DH is posted to Bath. Our house is in Calne, nr Chippenham so nice and convenient :) Can't wait to go home :Pinkbounc

Joh, One of my very good friends lives there. She is also a civil servant but her husband is in the Signals.

My Mum and Dad also live in Melksham, about 7 miles from Chippenham. My dads posted at Bristol.

Are you looking forward to your move? :)

Joh, lots of luck to you :)

I help run assesment centres at work on a regular basis, so depending on what type of job you are applying for I could let you know what our format is? If it is totally unrelated to the one you are going for it may not be worth mentioning ;)

Karen, thanks for the offer. The job is Marketing & Development Manager for a Housing Association.

Would be grateful for any advice you could give at all :)

Well, I got off to a good start yesterday (NOT) when my sleazyjet flight was delayed by over an hour. Panic mode set in but, luckily, we made up some time and, with the help of my Dad's Formula 1 style driving, I was 10 minutes early.

From there, it went downhill dramatically. I was taken to a room and given a sheet of paper with some facts and figures on and asked to produce an excel spreadsheet, calculating profts, costs etc. I was allowed 30 minutes. Now, excel is not one of my strong points anyway so I was dreading this. However, I set to work and managed to get all the columns I needed, then...the computer crashed (I swear, I didn't do anything - honest :rotfl: ) The guy came back in to sort it out, got it working and off he went again. Same thing happened - this time I had got a lot further and I was starting to get a bit annoyed. The guy came back in and they decided to move me to another room to use another computer. By this time, it was 11.30 and my actual interview was due to start. I got cracking on excel again then the guy came back and said that they had decided I didn't have to do the assessment because of being messed about so much. Happy days :teeth:

The interview itself wasn't so bad, however, I had real difficulty understanding the questions one of the guys was asking - I don't know whether it was how he spoke or how he phrased it but I kept having to ask him to repeat himself

To cut a long story short, having discovered there is no pension scheme, they are not willing to negotiate on either the starting salary or the holidays, I am actually hoping they don't offer me the job as I think I would have to turn it down anyway.

The good news is, they are compensating me for my flights so at least I'm not out of pocket - well, apart from the mahoosive lunch I bought for my Dad as a thank-you for picking me up

Anyway, it was lovely to see my Dad and it was an experience so nothing lost. Thanks so much for all your good wishes - if you don't mind, I'll store them up as I have applied for another job within the Civil Service and am expecting to hear whether I have an interview next week :)

Blooming computers! Sounds like one you can mark down to interview experience ;) Glad you got some time to see your Dad and I'll keep everything crossed wrt your application :thumbsup2
