Good sunscreen recommendation for kids

You need to use broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) and use physical block such as titanium dioxide & zinc. Oxybenzene is a dangerous chemical that soaks into our skins, and it doesn't necessarily block rays that well either. Avobenzene/Parsol, as mentioned above is ranked well for both sun protection and harmful chemicals.

Do you really use a zinc sunblock on your kids? I can't imagine having my kids running around at the beach all white! My dermatologist and I were talking about sunscreens, he admitted the physical block was the best, but he said he doesn't even use it on his kids because they would look so funny. We like Bullfrog or California Baby around here.

We usually use Ocean Potion, it smells really good (I hate "sunscreen" smell) and works great for us, and is better on the chemicals than some of the other brands. I prefer the spray kind though once we're out and about, so I'll be doing some research...

Those are the old school kind. I'm surprised your derm doesn't know that the new versions have microparticles that you can't really see. Sometimes I get white lines in my elbow creases or something as they rub/sweat off, but they aren't the opaque ones from when we were kids.

ITA! I don't want to make a judgment against your doc either, but for a dermatologist not to know of the newest sunscreens, I'd be a bit wary of his advice. There has been so much new research with sunscreens in the past few years.

There is lots of good research on the EWG website link that I posted.

Good luck, Tiger :)

We use zinc on our son's cheeks and under his eyes when we can't find Blue Lizard.

We get it from the surf shop here. We have lots of cool colors. Blue, yellow and pink. A lot of kids here use colored zinc on their faces. We usually have lots of our kids friends asking to borrow some...lol. I make sure to tell the parents wear to find it.;)

I wouldn't use it all over their bodies of course, but for the face they have some that are great for kids.:thumbsup2
