Have you tried any of the sugar-free desserts that are available throughout WDW at the QS restaurants (ie: brownies, pudding, sorbets, etc.)?

I am diabetic, so dessert is always a challenge. Last time I basically ordered regular ones and gave them all to DH (with the exception of the NSA dessert available at ABC Commissary, which was very good). I was wondering if anyone had tried the other SF/NSA desserts and what your opinions were. I think at the TS restaurants I can get fruit, but I'm not sure about that, either.

Anyone have experience with this? Help/advice/opinions much appreciated. :flower3:

I am also diabetic, type 1. In general--not just at WDW--I find that "sugar free" desserts that are pre-packaged/sold in restaurants are often as high if not higher in total carbs than their sugary counterparts. So I'm usually wary. DH and I were at Disney two weeks ago, on the dining plan. All the walking we do in the parks usually means I can cheat a little on my carb count without changing my dosage...which is awesome! So DH and I just got two regular desserts, split one and took the other back to the room for later. That said, by our last day (and we were only there three nights) we were both sick of dessert! LOL We just don't eat that many sweets at home. So at Columbia Harbor House we asked for sides (cole slaw and broccoli) instead of dessert, and that was no problem.

All that to say, I can't speak to the SF desserts specifically, but I have had luck changing out those dessert credits for something low in carbs/not sweet. :)

Thank you so much for the reply.

It was so frustrating last year, ordering dessert twice a day, only to hand it off to DH (who was more than happy to oblige).

I hadn't even thought to ask to switch it out for something else. That's definitely what I will try this go around.

Thank you again.

I'm a Type 2. DH and I found that we could order one meal for the two of us at most table service restaurants, and even though he is a big eater, it was plenty for two with a third for me and two-thirds for him. We split desserts as well. Of course, at some places when you say you're going to split an entree, the server brings out two normal servings of side dishes. :scared1:

For many sugar-free desserts, more fat has been added, so the item is less healthy than what a (probably better-tasting) regular version would be. It may not have fewer carbs than a regular version, so that defeats the purpose.

I'm not shy about asking for substitutions or sauces and such on the side. The servers are very accommodating.
