Wondering about good overnight camping stops both via I-95 or the western route via I-77/81/26. Don't think my wife would be interested in stopping at flying-j or the like. Campgrounds that would be easy to pull into after dark/after hours would be preferable. Any experiences and input anywhere along the routes are appreciated. Thanks!

It might help a bit more if you gave an idea on how far each day you like travel just to pinpoint a place. I can give you spots from NJ all the way down via the 95 route not sure on the other.

I suppose the Carolina's on 95....

We have been Florida residents for the past 8 years, so my information goes back a little, but I am sure it is still relevant. Beginning in 1989, we traveled down to Fort Wilderness every year (sometimes twice a year) for vacation in a class A motor home. Travel was from RI, just up the road from your CT home. Our route was usually the same using I 95. Left the house early in the am and stopped at Kings Dominion Campground (next to the park) the first night. Pull through sites were important since we towed a jeep. The next overnight stop (also pull through sites) was St Mary's KOA at mile marker 1 (I think) Kingsland, GA. This was the best night, since it was our time to shower, relax and talk about going over the GA line into FL the next day. When we arrived at the fort on day 3, we were all cleaned up, well fed, rested and ready to begin our WDW adventure. Boy, putting this down brings back such good memories. Since 2006 our path to disney in our RV is approximately 103 miles, and we love it. :cool1:

Thanks for the info! Getting excited to do this travel trailer style...will be first trailer (not counting my times in parents A-liner and Tioga class C when I was younger) for me and the family. Was out at our local camping world today...so close to pulling the trigger...planning for Fort Sept. or Oct. Love to drive there...usually staying in Marriott properties using points on the way, but I am looking forward to this...kids excited for the bunk beds...lol!

Jealous of your Florida address! My folks are in Venice...we moved there when I was 15. Then after 16 years ended up back in CT with my wife (for some family reasons). We both miss our Orlando home terribly!!! Our Disney trips are awesome, but oooohhh the pain of heading back north afterwards!

Places I have stayed at and would stay again:

South of the Boarder - Cheap, level, full hookup, never used the facilities.
New Green Acres - Reasonable per night cost, level and wide open spaces.
Point South KOA - Reasonable per night cost, level, LOT more trees. But if you get there before the office closes they will guide you to your site, and they have decent pizza and will deliver it to your site. (The pizza is not new york's finest, but comparable to dominos and papa johns.)

Keep in mind, I do not use the campground facilities, I have my own and even without full hookup its a one night stop and I can dump on the way out.
