Good socks?

Have you considered a good pair of walking sandals like Merrell brand?
I am a Floridian. my toes hate sneakers LOL I wear sandals 99% of the time.
I can wear my Merrells in the park with no issues, walking all day and its so much cooler.

I have a good pair of broken-in comfortable Keens but I still can't do them for a full day of walking. I need the support of a sneaker for some of that time. We are planning to do mid-day breaks each day for at least a short while (August!) so I'm planning to look at the weather and decide for each half of the day which shoe I'll go with. Also if we are planning on any wet rides during that segment.

Let me be the third to endorse Feetures. I was mildly offended at the idea of spending so much on socks but WOW they’re nice. Just pay attention. There’s a specifically left and a right sock.

Ha! Are they labeled?

Make sure whatever you buy you wear a bit before going on your trip. I made the mistake once of buying new socks for a trip to WDW, but I didn't try them out before hand. Huge mistake. I ended up buying new socks on Main Street, and having to put a bunch of mole skin on sore spots on my feet. It was miserable.

Yeah, I thought about that. My trip is in August, so I thought if I can get them ordered now, I'll have June & July to test them to see how they work for me. And I'll also have moleskin with me just in case the socks are good for miles 1-5 and not for miles 6+.

I play tennis in 100 degree heat at home, and I swear by Thorlo socks. They are my best socks for Disney. Another sock suggestion: bring a second pair with you to the parks in a small ziploc bag. There is nothing more refreshing than switching out your socks in the late afternoon. :)
Thanks! If there is a day when we don't take a hotel break in the afternoon, I'll keep that in mind!

Love the suggestions everyone. Thanks!

I love my Nike socks. Some are more customized than the others. And they have it in women’s too.

After multiple visits seriously affected by terrible blisters followed by much trial and error, I found Thorlos walking socks, which are padded in the right places for walking and are also made to wick sweat away from the skin. Sometimes I wear Smartwool hiking socks, which also wick sweat away. I also travel with at least two, sometimes three, pairs of shoes large enough to fit comfortably over the thick socks, and I change socks at least once in the middle of the day and wear a different pair of shoes each day so they can dry out between wearings. I haven’t had a problem with blisters since then. That said, in summer I wear Keen Whispers sandals. I’ve tried other styles of Keen sandals, but they don’t fit as comfortably or work as well in preventing blisters as the Whispers do for me.

So i have big feet, size 11 in woman's. I wear Gold Toe men's socks. Men's socks are do much thicker then woman's socks and don't have that slippery issue. I hate how woman's socks are so cheaply made. I started having to have to wear men's socks years ago because I couldn't find woman's that fit my feet. They now, finally, have bigger socks for woman but I have not found any that are thick enough to actually give any cushion. I am on my feet all day at work and need good socks. If your feet are big enough, i suggest looking at men's socks.

DS wears this brand daily; he's a big footed guy (14EEE-15).

I am prone to blisters at Disney (or anytime I walk or run long distances) until I got the recommendation for Feetures socks here on the dis. They are expensive but so worth it. Wore them everyday for our previous 10 day trip and didn’t get any blisters. I wear them all of the time now.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the product, "Foot Glide."
It works.
At the end of a day it might make your feet feel a little weird inside your socks/shoes, but it works. Our fam doesn't do Wallytown without it.
Comfy feet definitely help everyone's mood.

Injinji socks are great, they are all I wear as a runner. They are pricey per pair and not everyone likes a toe sock, but they have lots of weight and cut options (including no show).

I do this too. I hadn't thought about giving the shoes time to dry, but that is a good point. I alternate shoes so that if a pair is starting to cause a blister, I'll have a day to recover before wearing them again. This seems to keep away major blister problems.

Darn tough socks are great, there are so many benefits of Marino wool. Don’t let the old thinking of wool is just for cold weather. It does great in hot weather as well. i believe they still have a no question ask life time guarantee.

I used to be a Smartwool diehard and had probably $300 worth of Smartwools in my sock drawer. But I have plantar fasciitis and gave Feetures a try. I LOVE them so much! I worried that the support in them would break down after washing and the heat of the dryer but after multiple washings they're still going strong. They're expensive as heck but completely worth it. Don't waste your money on the socks that are labelled as being specifically for plantar fasciitis, though; they're even more expensive and I couldn't tell a difference at all.

I've never tried foot glide but I'm intrigued. I don't get blisters, though (as long as I wear the proper shoes for my feet), so I wonder if there's any benefit other than that.

I'm another die hard Thorlo fan.
I have all kinds of different ones that I use for walking, sports or days in a theme park. They have low cut ones with all kinds of extra padding in them.
You get what you pay for with socks, just like a lot of other things.
For long days in the summer in the parks though- I like the taller thick running or hiking socks. Yeah, stupid tan line if you aren't tan, but they are so thick- your feet will love you. I'm all for comfort before look. But for quick jaunts, the low cut ones are great.

Does anyone have any suggestions for super low, women's socks that work well in FL summer weather at WDW? Extra cushioning? Special Fabric? I typically just wear cotton/poly socks at home but I'm thinking that might not cut it for an August visit with all the walking. I'm willing to splurge on a couple of pairs to help pamper my tootsies while I'm there!
Agree with some prior suggestions on the sandals. Sandals aren't for everyone but I can't imagine walking around all day in shoes in the summer and then getting rained on and having wet sneaker feet- BARF!! I wear my sanuks most summer days. Not a ton of support but there are more supporting "walking" sandals out there.

All the running or tennis sock brands are moisture wicking and will help but as I'm sure you know, don't test the socks or your shoes out in WDW, make sure you have broken them in.

It took me a minute to get over the price tag of Feetures socks, but they're worth every penny and I don't even think twice about the price anymore.

I can't do open toed shoes at the parks. I've seen people get their feet stepped on, ran over by a scooter, things spilled on them. I personally just need running shoes.

I'm a fan of Asics low-cut running socks. Moisture wicking, with a little cushioned tab on the back at the ankle to help protect the back of the foot from the top/back of sneakers. I had no issues with blisters with them last week, even after getting a little wet on Kali River. I got my DD (11) Bombas, and she said they worked well for her.

Balega and Saucony socks are what I've worn for running and walking around the parks. Both are wooooonderful.

I’m just the opposite. I wear a size 4. I can wear kids socks but they are just not good socks. Of the suggested socks does anyone know which ones might come is a smaller size. Most women socks start at size 6 which puts the heel up close to my ankles.

Balega makes kids’ running socks. Based on my experience with the whole brand I would bet they are nice and not “kid’s quality” like so much stuff for kids.
