Good rides/shows for nursing.

I am trying to plan our schedule. I have a baby who will be 9 mos old when we go to WDW. He is old enough that he can be distracted if there is alot going on. I will bring a bottle or 2 for emergency times, but what are good places that he would be able to get a good nursing in at?

All the parks have baby care stations that have rooms for nursing with rocking chairs and soft light. They also have changing tables, etc. They are nice quiet places to nurse. Also, I found that the movie in France at Epcot is very dark and quiet(and actually has seats, unlike a lot of the movies at Epcot). I had a sling, so I felt comfortable nursing my baby on benches at MK, Animal Kingdom, and MGM. Most of the shows are too loud and distracting for older babies to stay focused on nursing. I've been twice while nursing babies and have never had a problem--I guarantee you'll see lots of women nursing their babies. Enjoy your trip.

I second the recommendation for the baby care centers. I had intended to nurse my then-5mo on rides and in shows, but she was way too distracted. I didn't think I'd want to take the time to go to the baby care centers, but it turned out to be the best thing in our case.

I did start a thread on this way back then, before we went last time. I just looked for it, but I guess it's gone. (Are old threads archived anywhere? This would have been in early 2000.) I got a lot of flames about nursing in public, and a few suggestions of good places to nurse. Some I can think of are Hall of Presidents (dark and relatively quiet) and the Liberty Belle. I thought the Beauty and the Beast show at MGM would be good, but it's too crowded and distracting. Someone suggested the Tommorowland Transit Authority, and the train would probably work, too.

There was a change in the board software earlier this year. Some threads were able to be saved and some were lost. I guess that was one of the lost ones since I couldn't get the search function to find it.

Fifteen years ago (when it was really unusual to have a nursing baby at WDW), I did it with my now 16 yr old DD. She was not very distractable and would nurse anywhere without a problem. It wouldn't have worked at all with my older DD; she was just too nosy!

Some suggestions I have are Carosel of Progress and the Pirates in MK. They are both relatively long, fairly dark and not too loud.
At Epcot, (besides France - a really good suggestion) try American Adventure, the Living Seas (not the movie though, they have sudden loud noises, thunder and lightening), the Circle of Life movie, and possibly the Making of Me movie. At the studio, the Great Movie ride and possibly Voyage of the Little Mermaid. I can't think of anyplace in AK.

I think it just depends on the child. We went to WDW when my now-5yo son was 13 mo; he nursed and fell asleep during the Legend of the Lion King show... slept through all that thunder! We took a 2 1/2 mo old last November and if there was room on the ride for him to nurse, he nursed.

Other places I have nursed my children: Pirates of the Caribbean, Great Movie Ride, Carousel, Carousel of Progress, Jungle Cruise, Backlot Tour (yes, even on those trams), Spaceship Earth, Listen to the Land, Hunchback of Notre Dame Show, It's a Small World, Peter Pan's Flight, Voyage of the Little Mermaid... those are all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more!

Back row of the Country Bear Jamboree and during dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern (we had one of the last seatings, were sitting back in a corner and the characters had already come by - the waitress even made sure no one bothered us), carousel of progress, Liberty Belle boat ride, Hall of presidents. At Epcot, the old journey into imagination, but be warned that they took your picture at the end. American Adventure, France movie and Ellen's Energy Adventure. There were many more places that I can't remember now, but my son was only 3 months on the first trip and 7 months on the second and NOTHING distracted him from nursing. The baby centers were very nice, but not convenient when baby was hungry.

A couple of places previously mentioned wouldn't have worked for me. I was worried about even hanging onto him on Peter Pan's Flight and thought it was way too short to nurse. The jungle cruise offers zero privacy, as you are sitting around the perimeter of the boat facing the people across from you. The carousel doesn't seem to offer much privacy either, and the ride would have been way too short for us. I prefered dark, long shows and rides. There are also some benches in more out-of-the-way places that we found convenient.

Peter Pan and the Carousel in Fantasyland are both less than 2 minutes long (according to the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities).

You mean I am the only one with kids who like to have frequent "sips" of a minute or 2? :D
