Good prices for Area Rugs?

Due to a water leak in our first floor bathroom, and a property manager who does not want to replace the warped laminate wood flooring in the adjacent living space, I have to find an area rug promptly to cover the floor. The laminate buckled horribly, and it's not only a tripping hazard, its just plain UGLY now. And knowing this type of flooring, if we walk on in it's going to start chipping at the seams too so it will look even worse if we don't cover it soon.

I'm not too happy about the unexpected expense, and I really want to get the best deal on this rug. It's been ages since I've had to purchase one. I looked around online and found olefin probably suits our needs best (toddler, messy older kids, and a dog = need to be able to spot wash it). But, I'm finding that the price range is pretty spread out. I've seen some for $100, and some all the way up to $500.

So, that said, anybody have an idea where to look for an olefin area rug (any size from 8x10 to 10x12) and how much is a good price?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with what you're looking for. I'd suggest looking at Overstock.com to see if they carry something you like. The shipping costs are very cheap there.

are you renting? If you are then NO WAY should you be paying for an area rug. You need to pressure the home/apartment owner into replacing the flooring. Not only is it a tripping hazard, but it could be a mold issue as well. The owner's insurance WILL cover the water damage, they are just being too cheap or lazy. If you are getting no traction, contact the local housing board, they will send someone with the city (or county or whatever local govt agency is in charge) to do an inspection and will cite the homeowner if there are housing code violations.

I would say Menards or Sam's Club, as well, but....I ran this past my DH the contractor and he agreed that it is NOT a good idea to let your landlord get away with not fixing this. It's going to do structural damage long term, you could get mold(and not know it right away, until family members start getting sick...), toddler crawling over it breathing all that in, etc. Part of being a responsible landlord is upkeep!

Good luck, I know it's never easy...

Rugsusa.com has great deals. I purchased a wool rug from them and have been very happy with it.

I second Overstock.com. Huge selection, great prices, quick affordable shipping, they also have sale prices sometimes. I just replaced our foyer rug with a rug from them. Go through ebates first to get cash back on your purchase.

If you have a Tuesday Morning nearby, try there. My local store always has a fairly large selection in their clearance section that are up to 80% off their already low prices.

I actually got my living room rug that I LOVE on meijer.com for about half the cost the same rug was on Amazon- I think it was $89. I don't know about olefin, but meijer is another, somewhat unexpected, place to look. And Amazon might have something too, but I wanted this particular one for its color scheme.

We got a 5x7 at Walmart for $40. It was neutral and inexpensive, which is what I'm looking for. You could check there.

Your landlord REALLY should replace that flooring. Like, legally.

Thank you so much for all the great ideas! I guess my biggest worry with buying online is that the colors won't be quite the same as what I think they are - but if it's going to save me more than $20, then I can live with it being slightly lighter or darker than what I was expecting.

I went back and forth with property management about the floor. They had maintenance guys haul in an enormous dehumidifier to get any remaining water out of the house that might have lingered under the flooring, in the air, etc. I'll probably be getting a giant electric bill too for running that thing for 3 days. I was thankful there was no damage to any of our belongings. Our bedrooms are all on the 2nd floor, but I happened to be asleep on the couch and heard the water rushing out of the broken valve. I can only imagine how bad things would have been if we hadn't discovered it until we all got up for the morning a few hours later!

I sent numerous pictures of the damage, mostly to cover my a** should they decide to blame ME when we do decide to leave someday. We've leased this home since 2010, and always pay on time, so I do wonder why they didn't want to do more. It's a beautiful home, and the flooring was so lovely, it's just a shame! I am assuming that the pictures I took with my point and shoot camera and sent to them just didn't look as bad as it does in person. The flooring guys hardly gave it a glance.
