Good plane toys for 20 month old?

We are flying down with our then 20 month old in December. He will have his own seat and will be in his carseat, which he usually doesn't mind riding in at all. Just to be safe, though, I want to have some new toys and things to keep his interest. He loves books and is really good about sitting and keeping quiet for a story, so I know I will take some new books. I want to have some new toys for him, too, though. Most of the toys I find that look like they would keep him interested play music or make noises that I'm sure the other passengers would find really annoying! Can anybody suggest some nice, quiet toys that a baby that age might like? He does like blocks and things, but he has a lot of those at home. Any suggestions?

DD loved stickers at that age (still does.) They have kept her occupied for quite a while trips.

We are going down in September and I got my 22 month old a Magna Doodle - they come in small and medium and even latch onto a car seat! She played with her cousins and loved it. I also got a sticker book and a lift the flap type book. I'm taking down a puzzle that that also has doors that open to reveal different animals. And the last thing I'm bringing are my prayers that we don't get delayed!! Hope this helps!!

I second the magna doodle---we bought our 20 month old twins the travel sized ones and they play w/those the most. They love to draw and have us draw pic's. I take these in my diaper bags when I go visiting people. They really are great and keep the girls interested.

She loves the Wiggles, so I bought her those. I found (I think in Target) the small travel packs of colorforms with Strawberry Shortcake and Spongebob. They were about 2.50. I saw in Costco today a set of one viewmaster, 3 reels, a case, and a travel Magnadoodle type toy for 9.99. I was eyeballing it for DD2, but put it back down. She has a birthday coming up, and I have bought every Wiggles toy imagineable. That should keep her busy! Just another thought- check your local dollar store for sticker and coloring books. I found Disney and other cute ones, some included paints and crayons attached right to the front of the book.

I purchased a magnetic Mr Potato Head at Kmart.

I tried to find it on line and couldn't but found this site of magnetic toys:

but do you have Cracker Barrel stores/restaurants near you? My 2 year old absolutely adores some of their old fashioned toys. Her absolute favorite is the face of a man that comes with a magnetic 'pen' and the magnet ore under plastic where you drag the hair to decorate the face. Does that make sense?? She thinks it's hysterical and it was like $2 Also, have you thought about some stories on cd with headphones? I didn't think my then 19 month old daughter would care but she will sit for hours listening to them with her older sister, especially if they have a book with pictures that comes with them. You can even make your own out of some favorite stories by recording them onto your computr and burning it to cd. We did this to personalize the stories by inserting their names into them whenever we could and they thing it's a great thing!

DVD Player - or your laptop if it has a dvd player with an extra, charged up battery. My ds (2 almost 3) has flown over 75,000 miles so far and without the dvd player we would have gone insane.

Thanks for the great ideas! We have a great personal DVD player that we use in the car, but I wasn't sure about the plane, since I don't know how he would tolerate the earphones. We might try it out and see how he does with them. Thanks for the other ideas as well!

I've never been to a Cracker Barrel but I noticed that they just opened one up at an outlet mall that I go to. That sounds like something my kids would love. At church a few years ago this little boy in front of us had something simular except it was a contruction site and you move around the dirt rather than hair on a face. I've been searching for one since....maybe they'll have one at Craker Barrel. Anyways what a great excuse to go to the outlets!

Maybe it's just me, but I found the "noise factor" to not be that big of a deal on the airplane. On our last trip ds was 13 months old and I had bought him this toy phone to play with that played music and said numbers. With the din from the jet engines (which has a white noise effect, IMHO) and the buzz of the other passengers talking, the little beeping and and music this toy made wasn't really that noticible. We also played a baby einstein video on the dvd player without headphones and no one seemed to mind (we didn't have the volume turned way up but it was audible) Of course at that age, ds wouldn't tolerate headphones. I figured the passengers around us would rather listen to those noises than my ds screaming anyway!

The travel magna-doodle has been great for our kids. Coloring books and crayons are a big hit too. Snacks that aren't too messy Like another poster said, don't worry abou ttoys that make noise as long as they aren't too loud. My oldest had a pixter (before we figured out it had a volume control) and no one ever complained a bit. What about some kiddy binoculars?/ My kdis love looking through them.

Just a suggestion on headphones...my DSs use them in the car with the video player (much to my relieft after listening to the Teletubbies in the car when DS #1 was little and wouldn't wear them!). I had tried those lightweight headphones several times and neither would wear them. We were at my parents and my then 3 year old picked up my Dad's big headphones and put them on. They took turns wearing them and loved them! I bought them each a set the next day and they've loved them ever since. The ones I got are the big squashy ones that cover the entire ear. I got them at Radio Shack and they have a seperate band that goes across the top of their head. When you put them on the self adjust in size. They are made to be portable so they fit even my 2 year old (who was less than 2 when he first started wearing them) just fine without being too big. They were on sale for $17.99 each when I bought them.
