Good news for Carousel of Progress fans!!

Some refurbishment is being done and, in fact, the animatronic father in the last scene is new having just been replaced a couple of weeks ago. I was told by someone in a position to know that COP very likely won't be around 4-5 years from now. Among other reasons, it's getting more and more difficult to update the last scene. However, my source said if people REALLY want to try to save this attraction we all need to write Disney to let them know. If you want to make a difference, don't just talk about it here...let Disney know how you feel!

OK - Let's throw out some ideas. If you were to update that last scene in COP, exactly what would YOU do with it ??

Quite frankly I think the big update should be to change the time spans.

Instead of doing decades, they should do centuries. Now that would be cool.

I think COP is great. I think one thing Disney should never lose sight of is that this was an atraction that Walt helped design and loved. Most people love this great attraction.

The one thing about COP that bothers me is how run down Disney has allowed it to get. the carpet looks like something that has been pulled from the garbage dump. Some of the seats feel like they are going to colapse. It's not like Disney does not have the money, those of us who own stock know from the annual reports how much disney rakes in every year. I can never get over how run down disney lets somethings get. If walt was alive we know he would never let things get like this.

We were in COP on Saturday, 12-11-05, and we were stuck through 3 cycles of thr last family scene - the first time we didn't move people just kind of looked around. The second time we finished and didn't move, people laughed. The third time we finished and still didn't move we al started saying the dialog from the beginning. We kept hearing announcements to stay in your seat until a cast member comes to let you out. And when we did see the light from the pened dor, the cheers rose into the sky and we all commented on the movie "groundhog day"

I hope they get it fixed up right!

Same here! It was funny! We were in for 3 showings of the final scene.

I agree with the previous poster though about the carpet and seating. It's really bad. I know they are replacing it in some theatres already but, it should never have been allowed to get to this level. When you sit down, some of the seats rock like they're not even bolted down. The carpet is a mess and even some of the stage items are long in need of replacement.

We went to the show on 11/28. It was the day we arrived, and I saw it and made my family go on it. We all really liked it. I think it would be a shame to get rid of it.

About the "Please remain seated" annoucement, I think this is because [even though this attraction is nearly 35 years old] a lot of people don't know that the show isn't over yet. Last May people did get up and open the back door and leave the theater at the end of each act, no matter how many times an annoucement was made that they could not just walk out. It also seemed that guests doing this really messed up the progression of the theater around the circle, which might explain having to sit through the same scene multiple times.

We saw COP on Sunday, and every time right before the we moved to the next scene, the CM came on the speaker and said, "please remain in your seats". It was kinda funny after awhile! I think I read somewhere that a CM was killed on that attraction years ago, so maybe they are being more careful? Or maybe someone in another "room" kept on standing up...not sure. I just thought it was strange.

When we rode it Saturday it got stuck after the first scene. We sat thru the same spiel 3 times and the CM kept saying remain in your seats. Finally we escorted ouselves out of the ride and then they called a technician. It opened back up a little later but we decided to wait until Tuesday to ride it again as I said in the OP. Guess we should have rode it on Sat, huh? But at least we got the good word about it.

I think this is one decision Disney has made that is right on. The CoP, to me, is Walt's legacy. It stands for everything he stood for, and was his creation from start to finish. I don't care if it only played to 1 person every showing. It's simply too important to Walt and to the purists.

It is completely false that instructions pertaining to COP are in the will. The will is publicly available...check it out...

Then a very nice CM at WDW's COP has been grossly misinformed. Ask my wife, I wasn't hearing things.
