From the Associate Press:

ATLANTA (AP) - Delta Air Lines announced Wednesday that it will create a new low-fare airline in a bid to lure budget-minded travelers from its lower-cost rivals.

The new airline, which will be named in February, will be launched in the spring of 2003 with non-stop service between Florida and the Northeast. The cities will include Boston, New York, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale initially. Other cities will be added later. Company officials said most one-way fares will be between $79 and $299.

Don't know if I'd call $299 one-way a low fare tho

Cool that is great for us maybe we can get a couple more long weekends at WDW , we usaully fly Delta for about $150.00
to $200.00 round trip to mco from boston will have to keep eye on them i know that they r building a new terminal at logan
witch My Co. that i work for lost the bid on .........
but it is coming along peter

This is great news! A little competition is great for prices. We usually try to book out of Providence because it's such a piece of cake, but would consider Logan if the price was right. Right now Southwest is hard to beat!

Peter - aren't they ALWAYS building a new terminal at Logan? It seems like it's always in process but never complete.....kind of like the big dig! Oh well, I guess it's part of our New England charm!

Take care.

I live in Atlanta, home of Delta's headquarters. This announcement made the local news since Delta is Atlanta's largest private employer, but I gotta tell you...

...this is the biggest piece of NON-NEWS I've seen in a long time.

They already have this product. It's called Delta Express (www.flydlx.com). It's a fleet of 737's flying from cities in the Northeast to Florida. This new airline will replace Delta Express. The only difference is that they'll be using 757's instead of 737's. Absolutely no reason to get excited. What a waste of hype!
