Good news, bad news, both expensive news

The good news is that I purchased our airline tickets from Portland, ME, to Orlando yesterday. Non-stop for $94 each way, a pretty darn good deal for Portland. I'm so excited! We'll be spending our 8th wedding anniversary and celebrating our birthdays in Disney!

The bad news? At 3:00 this morning my husband woke me up asking where all the space heaters were. Our furnace died. We're 90% sure it's the heat exchanger, which we've had problems with before. It will need to be replaced and we're sure it will cost hundreds of dollars. Probably about as much as our airfare.

If we had known the furnace would die 9 hours after purchasing our airline tickets, we probably wouldn't have purchased the airline tickets. Plus, it's a weekend, so getting it fixed might have to wait till Monday.

I'm so bummed. And, I'm a bit cold. Our house is about 60-64 degrees with 4 space heaters going, but there are major cold spots!

Anyone have a Thermopride heat exchanger lying around? :)

Can't send much except :surfweb: hot coffee, :grouphug: group hugs for body heat, :yay: jumping jacks to get the blood flowing, :stir: hot soup to keep your insides warm, pixiedust: and lots of pixie dust that your furnace gets fixed quickly! Oh, and none of this  because they might freeze onto your cheeks!

Best wishes that all gets fixed soon!

PS--I love your tag! I teach 6th grade and oftentimes feel like I am one of the 11 year olds I teach!

Ugh! Cover all the windows with blankets, that will help keep the heat you have, in. Fingers crossed you can get someone to come out today without costing an arm and a leg!

But secondly- who has/had tickets for $94?! Looking for cheap ones out of PWM myself! :)

Oh yuck. Why didn't this happen the other day when it was 60 degrees here in Maine instead of today when we are supposed to get snow?!

$94 each way is a sweet deal out of PWM!!!

Airtran has the $94 tickets. We're going in June! I wanted to go in April but the prices during vacation are insanely high.

My husband can't find the phone number for our handyman. Luckily, it's a small town and someone we know must have it!

Good luck with the furnace. Good thing that we are having a mild winter so far! I can remember December's when it was zero at night. I love my wood stove when I hear about stuff like this.

$94 out of PWM is great. We usually fly Southwest out of Manchester but Portland is actually a little closer. I am going to have to check flights out of there more often!

If you're serious about wishing you hadn't purchased the tickets, I believe you can get a refund within 24 hours of booking them (or perhaps it's by midnight the next day instead of a strict 24 hours). I know it's this way with Southwest, although it's not something that's widely advertised, and I think it's more of a law-type thing that would apply to all airlines. So, if you really want to, I believe you could get your money back...

Thanks for the tip on the airtickets. I will go check it out since we are getting married in June and still need to buy our airline tickets. I love nonstop.

That sucks about your heater. Looks like we will be shoveling tomorrow in our part of Maine.

Bake bread or throw a chicken in the oven. Bake cookies??? The oven can warm things up pretty good in a pinch. :) And take your mind off being chilly.
