What would you say is the best Good Neighbor hotel within a block or so (walking distance) of Disneyland and why?

I don't know if it is the best but we like the Fairfield Inn. We have stayed there 6X. It has a hotel feel, in that you have to walk through the lobby to get to the rooms that are on the second floor and above, so you feel safe. Beds are super comfy, but I wouldn't pay extra for the 'theme' room.
It is about a ten minute walk. Our room this trip is at 119. per night.
I like to scan the website too incase the price drops then have my reservation changed. I have already dropped from 129.00 to 119.00 by doing so.

Editted to add: Check out the trip advisor web site. They have great hotel reviews and photos posted by guests. You have to take everything you read with an open mind as everybody's expectations are different but over all a really great rescource.

We stay at the best Western Park Place Inn. We like that they are right at the cross walk, so no waiting for a shuttle, and at the end of the night it is an easy walk for our Littles. I also like that the have a little sitting area in most rooms, and a fridge and microwave in every room. It can be a bit noisy sometimes. Last year the fireworks woke me up and nearly gave me a heart attack! We usually bring stuff for breakfast, but I recently read that they have improved the breakfast, so we'll be trying that this time. It isn't a luxury hotel, but it is close, clean, and affordable.

For my family it is either the Tropicana, Carousel, or the Howard Johnson. The Howard Johnson has good rates, clean rooms, good service, but so does the Tropicana and the Carousel which are closer to the park then the Howard Johnson. We find that the beds at the Tropicana and the Carousel are the exact same but have nice soft beds and down comforters and pillows. We enjoy all three places, but in order 1. Tropicana 2 Carousel 3 Hojo. Each of these hotels are within a 5-10 minute walk from the park gate, so no shuttles are required. But the one reason that we prefer the Tropicana or the Carousel is that they are considerably closer to the park gate, and the walk at the end of the day doesnt seem as long.

However depending on when you go, all three have really nice pool areas but the Hojo's is the best, especially if you have kids.

Park Vue Inn. Welcome basket, expanded continetal breakfast, snacks and water for free in the lobby and a social hour with light fare in the evening.

Best Western Park Place Inn, slightly expanded continetal breakfast.

Candy Cane Inn, this place is basically a small motel, where you can tell the management/ownership takes pride in thier property.

Ramada Maingate, a pricing tier under the others, with great location, and recent remodels of the property.

We usually stay at the Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites. We've stayed there almost every year for the past 18 years and have never had a problem. Great rates and right in between Denny's and IHOP. They usually have a kids eat free deal. The hotel is clean, right across the street from old main gate and has a simple continental breakfast that fills you up enough to get you through the am or there are little microwaves and refrigerators in the room or plenty of room for a cooler. If you have a larger family, they have family suites as well.....

My preference in order disregarding price and leaving out Residence Inn as it is too far for some is:

Candy Cane
Carousel
Fairfield
Hojo's

The others on Harbor rank together as the beds aren't that great. Only places I haven't stayed on the Harbor strip are Ramada Inn Maingate and BW Anaheim Inn. Place I stayed and will never go back is Del Sol.

We have stayed at: (in order of preference)

1. Park Vue Inn (X3): Is literally across the street. Close enough to head back to your room for lunch or a nap. The layout of the bunk bed rooms is awesome as well. The breakfast is STELLAR and there is no better way to get psyched up about your day than to eat your waffles facing the Matterhorn! And that is not taking into account the little things: Welcome basket in your room upon check-in, cookies in the lobby, etc. I would stay here again without hesitation!

2. Portofino Inn- (X1) LOVED the kids' suite. They pull it off brilliantly! And the IHOP on this corner is WAYYYY better than the IHOP across the street from the walkway. But it was a bit pricey, and no breakfast options.

3. Candy Cane Inn (x1) I know this place has a Ron Paul- like following on the internet (and I don't mean that politically, I mean it in the fervor and devotion of supporters. :thumbsup2 ) but we were very eh about it. Yes, it is close, yes, it is a very "ma and pa" type feel, yes it has a dedicated shuttle. BUT...the rooms are teeny teeny tiny- and we had the "deluxe" room. Motel 6 sized tiny hotel room. The breakfast is danishes and donuts, and the only place to eat is on the pool chairs which are still soaking wet with morning dew. And the dedicated shuttle takes a 2 hour dinner break, with no notice listed in any of the hotel information. We found that out after we gave up waiting and we gave up an walked back.

4. LaQuinta Inn (X3) Farther than a block away, but the price is great- Under $100 for a kids suite! But the last time we stayed there the hotel was not as well kept as it had been on our previous visits so I don't know if I would want to stay there again.

Also, make sure to Google map what a "block" is when you are considering where to stay. For instance, the Candy Cane Inn and Portofino are indeed "a block away" from the entrance, but that block is the entire length of DCA.

For those of you that voted the Park Vue Inn, I was wondering about the noise. I am headed to Dineyland during grad nights and it was only after reading this thread that I even considered Park Vue.

With grad night ending at 3am, will I be able to hear the noise during the night?

Pool is small and in the middle of the parking lot, but it gets you wet.

We never noticed any noise issues when we stayed there.

We will go back to Park Vue every time.

I am able to recommed (and in my order of preference)

1. Desert Inn and Suites - If booking early enough the prices are super and the location cant be beat. Breakfast is enough to get us started. Rooms are big and clean. Indoor pool can be usefull during our fall trips. Cons: parking charge and availability

2. Hojo's - Actually the nicest facility. Good rates. Walk is about 8 minutes. Great kids pool. Friendly staff and well stocked store. Free parking and lots of it. Super comfy beds. Cons: traffic noise, no breakfast

3. Best Wester Park Place Inn - Location as close as you can get. Rooms clean. Bigger breakfast though still cold. Plenty to get you started. Cons: parking charge/availability and rates seem to have gone up a bit.

We would stay at all three again but the biggest factor for us is cost. We currently have reservations at DI&S for September and Hojo's for April.
