Can anyone recommend a good "Good Neighbor" hotel within walking distance of Disneyland? I'm currently considering the Best Western Park Place Inn or the Candy Cane. Which do you think is better? Or do you prefer another hotel? TIA!:goodvibes

I haven't stayed at Park Place Inn, but I can highly recommend the Candy Cane Inn. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly, the free breakfast is good and the free shuttle after a day at the park can't be beat. While it is farther than the Park Place, you don't have to cross Harbor Blvd.

We also enjoyed staying at the Candy Cane. We stayed there Thanksgiving week two years ago. The beds were very comfortable. It is close enough to walk to the parks, but there's also a shuttle that is nice when you don't feel like walking. The free breakfast saved us money. The staff was friendly.

I haven't stayed at any of the other nearby hotels, so I can't give an opinion on them. But the Candy Cane is very nice.

BWPPI, Tropicanna, Carousel Inn and Camelot are all popular here for the "close" hotels. If you don't mind a bit of a walk then both HoJos and CCI are also popular, both are just over half a mile away. Each hotel has their strengths and weaknesses, a lot will depend on what you want in a hotel and how many in your party (some have quite small rooms).

Both are good properties. The BWPPI is a bit closer, but I think the CCI is a little nicer. The CCI does have a dedicated shuttle that runs every 1/2 hour if you dont want want to walk.

We stayed at the Carousel Inn in May of last year. Despite the construction that was going on there at the time we thought it was a nice lodge. It was right across the street from Disneyland. We got a breakfast included if we wanted it. Our room was upstairs so we got a nice view of the Matterhorn.
We got the room as part of a package deal with a travel agent so the price might be a pleasant surprise for you too.

We did take a walk down Harbor Blvd. just to have a look around. The Candy Cane and the Clarion at the Main Gate had also been recommended to us. Of those two the Candy Cane looked better.

Thank you all very much for your recommendations. If anyone else has any comments, I'd appreciate reading them.

We stayed at the HoJo's in September, we loved our rooms. We had 2 queen premium deluxe rooms that overlooked the matterhorn. I think the webcam that have on their site was right above our balcony.

It wasn't a bad walk at all to DL, it took maybe 12 minutes at most and we sauntered/strolled/mosey'd. I am not in top shape at all and the walk back in the evening wasn't bad at all except one night, my crocs rubbed blisters on the top of my feet.

I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful, when my brother's motorized wheelchair broke down; they comped us ART tickets so we could get to the park and back that day. They also took care of facilitating the repair company coming and leaving that day, we didn't have to stop the vacation.

I stayed at the Park Place Inn in November 2005. It was very close and I liked that about it. I just got back from a trip earlier this month and stayed at the Ramada Inn Maingate. It is a bit farther to walk to (3 or 4 hotels down from PPI), but I preferred it. I thought the rooms were nicer and the hotel atmosphere was better. My room also had a good view of the Tower of Terror! I would definately stay there again.

I've stayed at many of the other good neighbor hotels too, but mostly when I was younger, so I can't give a real good opinion. I think every hotel is cool when you are a kid.

Just stayed at the Ramada Maingate this past weekend and enjoyed it. Eateries and shops at the front of the place, nice pool, plus breakfast for $100 a night on weekends. Right next to Tony Roma's.

We stayed at Carousel in '06 and HoJo's last June. If I had to choose between the two I would stay at HoJo's again. Farther away, but overall a nicer place to stay.

we will be staying at the HOJO in just over a month!!! And it is about a 7 minute walk... Plus.. it is the last stop to DL and the first stop from DL on the Red Line Bus.

My only comment is many of the "hotels" are really motels with exterior coridors, extensive parking lots, and limited amenities. Please just have realistic expectations.

We just got back from DL. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn by Marriot this time. We have stayed there before and feel that they have made some nice improvements. Our room had 2 queens and a single sofa sleeper. The bathroom had been totally redone with a new shower head, tub surround and toilet. The room was clean and the hotel was well maintained.
The last trip we stayed at the BWPPI. The room was smaller and only had double beds. It did have a microwave and frig. The Fairfield only has a frig. BWPPI was closer, but only by 5 minutes or so. I prefer the Fairfield now.
