Good morning! How is everyone today? I'm enjoying a cup of coffee with flavored cream (it's really help lessen my starbuck's addiction) and watching the last of Guys and Dolls.

Any big plans for the day? Anything good cooking on the stove today? Have a good weekend?

I'm thinking I'm going to see a museum today and get out for a while. I cooked and froze alot of meals yesterday and plan to bake some mini loafs of bread today and a batch of cookies. I went to Mass lastnight so I wouldn't have to venture out in the early morning cold. I'm not really digging this cold but I'm learning. I have added several pieces of cold weather gear to my wardrobe and learned that practical outweighs cute when it comes to freezing your *** off;)

So fill your coffee cup and tell me how your day is going or will be going.

...it's a balmy 12 degrees here :cold: ....but on the bright side, it IS sunny...

Good morning! Having a cup of coffee with you! It's minus 7 here..Brrrrrrr! In just about 2 weeks we'll be heading to WDW hoping for warmer weather than what they have now! In the meantime-just catching up on last minute things-trying to help my son with his math test tomorrow but really just trying to stay warm!:goodvibes

There is no need for such cold weather. Apparently it's rather chilly in WDW now but of course alot warmer than -7.

Last year I went to see my inlaws in Michigan. I was ready to cry it was so cold. It was something like -10 and with windchill -20. I wouldn't get out of the car for anythng. I had to go to the ladies room quite badly but it was the only thing keeping me warm! Hell for southern people is not hot:laughing:

Good morning! I love Sunday mornings! I'm drinking my cup of tea (not a coffee drinker) catching up on emails. I think I'll skip the Sunday paper, it's looking frozen to the ground! When kids get up we'll have pancakes and I'll make potato soup and fresh made rolls for dinner.

DDs want to sell Girl Scout cookies, but seriously? I had my 20 degree 6 inches of snow door to door fill yesterday with not much luck. Who wants cookies right after the holidays? Even if they are GS cookies! :confused3

Good morning to you too, Tina!

I'm drinking a mug of coffee with caramel apple creamer. Slept in until 8:00 this morning, it was nice to see it be daylight when I got up instead of dark. :)

We blew the day off yesterday, as DH is still not feeling up to par (he's had sinus problems, coughing, etc. for 2 weeks now). We watched a couple movies, "All About Steve" thought that would be good with Sandra Bullock in it but we thought it was just stupid. And "Final Destination", pretty good (wish we could have had the 3-D glasses).

DH doesn't want to just "sit around the house" today, so I think we'll get out later this afternoon and go for a ride. Maybe go somewhere for supper too.

I should be starting to think about taking the tree and Christmas decorations down too, but I don't want to. :(

Hope everyone has a great day, and stay warm!!

I'm making this for dinner, and plan on staying inside, out of the cold.

Stracoto with Porcini Mushrooms

Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis

1 (4-pound) boneless beef chuck roast
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 onions, sliced
6 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
1 cup dry red wine
1 3/4 cups canned beef broth
1/2-ounce dried porcini mushrooms
1 large sprig fresh rosemary, plus extra for garnish

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Pat the beef dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the beef generously with salt and pepper. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a heavy 6-quart roasting pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until brown on all sides, about 15 minutes total cooking time. Transfer the beef to a bowl. Add remaining tablespoon oil to the pan, add the onions and saute until tender, scraping up the brown bits on the bottom of the pot, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and saute 1 minute. Add the wine and boil 1 minute. Stir in the broth and mushrooms. Return the beef to the pan. Bring the liquids to a boil. Cover and transfer to the oven. Braise until the beef is fork-tender, turning the beef over halfway through cooking, about 3 hours.

Transfer the beef to a cutting board. Tent the beef with foil and let stand 15 minutes. Meanwhile, spoon any excess fat off the top of the pan juices. Transfer the pan juices and vegetables to a blender and puree until smooth. Combine the sauce and rosemary sprig in heavy medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Season the sauce, to taste, with salt and pepper.

Cut the beef across the grain into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Arrange the sliced beef on a platter and garnish with rosemary. Spoon the sauce over and serve, passing the remaining sauce in a sauce boat.

Hey there, Tina! Stay warm down there.

It's 6.6 degrees here, and I am sitting here in my pjs in front of the wood stove. Today's plans are to stand at the bottom of the ski hill while my kids take lessons and freeze my tail off.

My DH is grumpy this morning and I am thinking of leaving him home to rest. He is pretty stressed out because his dad is being a pain in the tush.

I am hoping to get good news on Monday about a new job. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope everyone has a good day!

There is never a bad time for GS cookies! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lemon cookies. Are they still avilable? My luck probably not lol. I'll have to find some GS around here to order.

My husband helped take the trees and most of the decorations down before he left. I didn't want to juggle the heavy stuff while going down the stairs. figure hey he is here might as well use his muscles since I'll be digging myself out of anymore snow this season;)

Thank you for the recipe. I'll have to try it when I'm feeling the need for something new though I barely turn my stove on when it's just me.

Good luck on the new job! I"m waiting to hear about one myself but it'll take a bit longer since it's an army job. I want to learn to ski (I think) but too bad I can't learn when it's warm. Maybe someone could make me a snow hill inside where it's warm or at least not BRRRR freezing cold. If we can put a man on a moon, I think this can be accomplished.

I understand your husband's frustration. We have two moms that drive us crazy lol. We tell people that we have two 50 somethings we dont need children:rolleyes1

Stay warm today:hug:

Topper, your recipe sounds delicious! I will have to put it on my recipes to try list!

Tina, yes, they still make the Lemon Chalet Cremes! I like them too~:yay:

Good Morning....almost afternoon....but I have been to Target and grocery store and have supper prepared and in the frig already! The sun is shining and we are at a balmy 17degrees here today!!! Yeah!!! We are coming out of the deep freeze, may even see the 30's this week. Tomorrow I turn 60 years old! How does that seem possible. Life is good though, so I am more than OK with turning 60. Age has never really been a thing to me. On my 50th birthday I rode TOT for the 1st time. Kind of glad I am not there this year with the weather they are having. I do get to go in 10 days. My DD is taking me to CRT for breakfast one of the days we are there. Isn't that how most 60 year olds celebrate? That sentence seems more like it should say I am taking my DD there for her birthday. ;-) Looks like the weather should warm up for us. Happy Sunday to all! Hope the "heat wave" is coming to everyone that is freezing out there.

mmmm....Topper - great recipe. I will try it for sure!

I've got so much to do today. I HAVE to start to undecorate, laundry, some ironing (ugh!). Still haven't finished unpacking from our WDW trip and we returned from that almost 4 weeks ago!

We played yesterday (went to Napa to pick up our wine shipment) so I have to pay for that fun today.

Thank heavens I only work half-time. Maybe I can pack everything away during the week. So far, Mom only has one appt scheduled this week, but we're hoping to fit one more in.

Good Sunday Morning to you, T!!! :goodvibes

As far as the cold weather goes....well, move here with me!!
It is lovely and warm (69 degrees this morning) here in the beautiful OC!!! :beach:

DH and I will head out soon to ride our bikes....get in a little exercise, walk the piers. :sunny:

I so hope this cold-snap ends for all of you. :cold:

Good Morning-or rather afternoon Miss Tina. I slept late -until Himself called me to tell me that they are at about the 90 day remaining mark-needless to say i didnt go back to sleep after that .
Ive got a big pot of vegatable beef soup brewing in the kitchen and im working on de junking this appartment-its much much warmer here than there-a nice tolerable 40 degrees-so i have the sliding door open to let some air in.

Happy Sunday to YOU as well!

Nothing much going on here today. DH is feeling under the weather today, so he isn't offering much entertainment... :sad2: Thankfully, there is the Dis! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Nothing cooking today... I work tonight, and like I said, DH is in no mood to eat, although I think I might make him a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle and some mint tea... he's been sleeping since 3am last night.
