Good meals to eat in your condo/house?

I don't want to end up buying a lot of meals that require condiments, or that would have a lot of leftovers. We will eat all breakfasts, a couple of lunches and most dinners at our condo.

I'm thinking of things like cereal and milk, as opposed to toast, because then we'd end up buying peanut butter or jam as well, for example.

Frozen pizza would be good, pasta, easy meals like hamburger helper....

What type of meals do you guys cook while on vacation?

We don't worry too much about a few leftovers here and there. If you want toast, have toast!

We don't often have dinner in the unit, but one easy one is to go grab a pre-made whole roast chicken, some frozen veggies, and garlic bread.

How many people are you trying to feed?

You could buy bread for toast and use it for sandwiches too. For an easy meal, we make sloppy joes with fries and a can of baked beans. Also, frozen lasagne and garlic bread.

Will you have access to a grill? That could make for some easy meals. Grill some chicken breasts and use them for salads, sandwiches, quesidillas, etc.

Pasta and sauce with some fresh bread;
Sandwiches and salad;
or my favourite, order some Flippers pizza!

If you order enough pizza to have left-overs, you can also have some of that salad and bread from above with it the next day.

Can you tell that I don't cook? :rolleyes:

We never shop for the entire stay at 1 time we buy for about half the stay use that up then go buy more if we need to.

I try to stay away from buying condiments an spices but there are exceptions there too...Say it's cheaper to buy the big bottle of syrup an have some leftover it's still cheaper to buy the big bottle throw out what is left than to go out an eat every morning.
DH will use syrup every mornin on his waffles but I would not buy bottle for 1 time use.

We love those large frozen shells ( Looks like a sea shell) that is filled with ricotta cheese. Add a jar of meat sauce and super easy dinner that you can even microwave! If you are driving you might consider crock pot meals?

Two things that we do that are now permanent things are we make a HUGE fruit salad and we kind of splurge on the fruit that we buy. I'm pretty frugal (ahem, cheap) so we don't usually buy pomegranates, blackberries, star fruit, etc. at home since it is usually so pricey, but there are no rules for this salad and it is so good. We usually eat a little for breakfast and then as a dessert after dinner time at night. We also bought these little microwave egg cooker thingies at Wal-Mart. They are like $3 and you scramble an egg, add bacon or a sausage patty (I buy the precooked bacon) and zap it in the microwave for 30 seconds (I think), put a slice of cheese on it and put on a bagel or English muffin or our favorite- the Pillsbury flaky biscuits. They are SO good and filling and everyone can quickly and easily make their own when they are ready to have breakfast. Trust me- there will be no leftovers, you will have to buy more!

A few years ago someone on the boards posted about a company called www.minimus.biz This company sells travel size packets of condiments, peanut butter, jelly, olive oil, syrup, etc. ....you name it and they have it! I usually place an order about once a year......and I then have the items for any trips we take......WDW or otherwise. If you have a $20 order I believe it's still free shipping (I haven't ordered in awhile.....I'm due this fall). I then package up dry goods and whatever condiments, salad dressings, etc. I will need while there and ship it to myself at whichever DVC resort we happen to be staying for that trip.......usually costs me about $17 or $18 to ship a box FedEx .....weight about 25 lbs.....but, I have a LOT of stuff in there.....coffee, paper plates, napkins, coffee filters, sugar packets, all of above condiments, pieces of plastic wrap, alum. foil and waxed paper (I cut pieces about 12x18 and layer them and fold....takes up practically zero space in the box) cereal (take out of box and leave in waxed bag), english muffins, boxed pasta......pretty much any dry goods I need for meals......another hint.......whatever spices you need for recipes......premeasure, label, and package in snack size baggies....and throw those in the box too. This saves a ton on groceries when we order from GardenGrocer......I pretty much order just fresh and dairy stuff.....which is usually still about $75 or so.......it's a huge savings when all six of us are traveling and we don't eat in every night either.......we usually have ADR's at least twice, plus a few counter service meals thrown in there.

I just got back from a two week vacation and this is what we had done.
Basically, at the resort or at a resturant I'm sure you can find pre-packaged sugars/mustards/mayo/ketchup/salad dressing. Take as many as you want just sneak it into a bag.
We bought Itallian bread, and cold cuts. Good for sandwhiches, Toast, and even french toast.
Pre-packaged salad mix like in thoes baggies.
Pasta and Pasta Sause.
Fruit Bowls
Eggs, and Bacon and Fries (chop them up for breakfast or have them for lunch)
We also bought a apple pie and vanilla ice cream just for something different.
Maybe have everyone pick out one frozen dinner as well.
