Good interior paint that won't break the bank?

OP here:

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. :) After reading your advice, and reading a TON of reviews on the internet, I think we're going to go with the Home Depot Behr Premium Plus Eggshell for the walls, which runs around $22 a gallon. (I decided against the more expensive version with the primer already mixed in, since we will be repainting in a very similar color to what is already on the walls.)

Now for the big question...does this stuff ever go on sale? President's Day weekend is coming up soon, and I'm wondering Home Depot typically runs a paint sale then? I recall that it's always on sale for Memorial Day weekend, but I can't wait that long. We're doing the entire house, so it's going to be a lot of paint.

They sometimes do a $5 per gallon mail in rebate, that's the best I have seen. They just did it a few weeks ago so not sure they will do it again soon.

Thanks. I do have a 10% Lowes coupon (which Home Depot will accept), so at least that's something off. I have an objection to paying full retail price for anything, lol.

LOL, me too! I went to buy a gallon of Behr Thursday and the promo was over. :sad1:

Even worse, the color I wanted was a "copyright" by another company and they couldn't match it, I couldn't use the Behr, I had to get the more expenseive brand! Of course, DH and I spent a month figuring out just the right color so it was worth the extra $10 at that point to just get the paint :rolleyes1

How can someone copyright a color!?!?! sheesh :)

If you can't wait, the 10% off would be your best bet now.

Weird...I thought they could computer match anything, regardless of the manufacturer. Maybe it was just the salesperson you got? Although, I do know that for an exact match, you need to use the same paint as the sample.

I googled and saw that they did the $5 rebate thing last President's Day weekend, so I'm hopeful that they'll repeat it this time. For now, I'm just going to buy enough paint to do the first 2 rooms, and wait and see if it goes on sale that weekend.

I have a few different paint samples taped to my living room wall right now...trying to figure out which one I like best.

I work at Home Depot. Behr is excellent! I love it, will never use anything else.

And I used to work in Paint and "copyright" or not, we CAN match any color. I don't know the exact circumstances why they couldn't, though. We take the sample, place it in the matching machine and BAM. Or we can look it up by name in our system even a competitiors, we have thousands. We can search Valspar, Sears, etc. If it's a really old color we sometimes can't. I know they don't always like us matching Ralph Lauren's colors because they don't always come out 100% accurate but it's often close enough. The matching system has gotten way better than it was just a few years ago. I think your sales associate might have been new and confused.

Behr JUST had a Martin Luther King, JR. day sale. I'm sure they'll do something for President's Day. I think they even had a sale on Columbus Day last year, LoL!

And if you do get the paint during a rebate time, fill out the form online. You'll get your rebate in half the time it would take by mailing it in and it's SO simple. Took me less than five minutes online to fill everything out.

Using quality brushes and rollers make a huge difference too.

My husband runs a handyman business and he has a large corporate account where he takes care of 12 large buildings including paint..lots of paint...we have also painted lots of apartment/home interiors over the past few years.

He uses Purdy brushes and rollers....they hold up well...he doesn't replace them often..you just need to clean them out really well.

He also uses magic erasers to remove smudges and graffitti which cuts down on the need to repaint.

We used a lot of Behr paint on homes and apartments, but in the 12 buildings we use Sherwin Williams because it just holds up to heavy traffic much better. We have used Glidden, Valspar and WalMart paint in the past if the customer provided it, but it always required more coats and more time..a lot more time..he had to start bidding those jobs higher to actually have the job worth doing for the time and effort involved.

Good Brushes are a must, just as important as the paint and they are usually where people skimp.

I agree. We will only buy BEHR from Home Depot.

Another vote for Behr and another vote for I HATE Valspar.
