My family loves ice cream. I was hoping that there would be a good ice cream place with homemade flavors. I'm not looking for franchises like cold stone. Thanks!
I couldn't resist a thread with ice cream in the title and since you posted on Orlando area section I assume your looking outside of WDW. You mentioned no chains and homemade and that immediately took me to "gelato." If you've never tried it, it has bold flavors usually made at the local shops. Do a google search and you should be good to go.
The Earthquake at Ghirdelli in WDW village is pretty good. It is 8 scoops of ice cream with tons of toppings. We had a family of 4 and could not finish it.
We LOVE the Ghiradelli ice cream shop at WDW village/marketplace.... it is the only place that still makes chocolate ice cream sodas....Mmmmmm so simple, yet soooooo delicious! It wasn't on the menu anymore at my last visit, but they still made me one!
Yes, non-chains are not an Orlando specialty, especially on this side of town. This place is interesting, basically a hole in the wall--a friend brought over some corn ice cream (yes, "corn") from here one night. Was...different.
According to DH, the best place in Disney for ice cream sundaes is the POP Foodcourt. You can get a huge sundae for a low price. I think it is somewhere around $3.99-$4.99. They have different flavors of icecream but it is not homemade and it is not a large variety of flavors.
I'll be checking out that tropical place, thanks for posting it. All I saw was something about parcha ice cream and I was in.
Here's a place from back up north that has made it down here. I highly recommend a "gelati" in mango, black cherry, or swedish fish, but they have other flavors. Small chain that will grow fast.
