Anyone get a good rate for a car rental in December yet? We're going Dec 7-11 (4 rental days) and can't seem to find anything good yet.

I just booked today with Dollar for a one day rental, Dec 9th picking up at MCO and dropping off at Tampa, then picking back up at Tampa airport Dec 17th and returning 3 days later at MCO. The one day rental I got for $29 plus all the crap they add to it for an intermediate size. The 3 day rental from Tampa was $33 a day for intermediate plus all their taxes and add ons. I figure I will keep looking between now and then, but at least we have something reserved in case nothing else comes up. MUCH different price than when we paid $167 total for 10 days this past December.

I got an SUV from Alamo for $191 total for 7 days. Fortunately I booked it two months ago, because I am finding it difficult to find a budget car for that price right now!! Hopefully the prices will go down as we get closer to those dates!! :groom:

I did get that awesome alamo rate for our August trip, but didn't have this Decmeber one planned at the time.

However, I was able to get a compact car for 4 days through National for $84 using the Amex code 5125601 and the Entertainment coupon code for 1 free weekend day. That's not too bad... I think you'll always end up with a better rate when you rent for a week, unfortunately for me...

Maybe it will get better as it gets closer...

When do you think the prices will drop, I am getting $640 for a nine day rental for a Mini Van, this is with the costco coupon and the $25 off.. hoping for a better rate than that!
We are going Dec 6-15 so it is not during the Christmas rush.. it should drop shouldn't it????

Mousy, I hope the rates drop. They are MUCH higher then I have paid the last two years but I don't know. I am not overly familar with renting vans, so perhaps someone will have some ideas for you.

December rates are not looking good yet. I don't know if we are flying into/out of MCO or TPA so I have several rentals currently booked:

3 week rental Dec 16/06 - Jan 6/07

Pick up MCO - D/O MCO (THANKS ROBIN B for helping me find this rental)
Thrifty - mid size no code: $488US

Pick up MCO - D/O TPA
Dollar - compact - no code $536 US

Pick up TPA - D/O MCO
National - compact - AMEX code $572 US
National - SUV - CAA code $526 US

Pick up TPA - D/O TPA
National - Emerald club code 5007125- SUV $548 US
National - compact - CAA code 6100253- $526 US

I booked all of these early Feb I think. Since then most of these have gone up. I prefer to fly into MCO and then out of Tampa since the beginning of our holiday we will be in MCO and the end south of TPA, but it all depends on where I can get the lowest SWA airfare.

ANY HINTS on how to get a lower rental rate???

I booked with Budget last summer, then when it got closer to our date which was (11/28-12/5/05) I went with Priceline and got a minivan with National cheap. I had something just in case it didn't work, did not have to put any money down when I reserved with Budget. I was happy that I got a minivan with Priceline for the price of a Full-size that I had with Budget.

Good luck.

I haven't even started looking for Dec car rental yet. I'm still checking our June rates everyday! I can only focus on one trip at a time...too confusing! Here's hoping that rates will be good for Dec. when we get back in June! :thumbsup2

I know, I have a 2 week august trip and then the 4 day december trip; it's so confusing!!! But I wanted to get the biggies down(hotel, car rental, MVMCP tkts and flight.) The problem is, if you snooze you lose, so everything has to get booked way in advance.

I like to always have my next trip booked before I go, this way I'm not so sad about leaving...

I have a 5-day minivan from 11/23-11/27 from National for $215 (Emerald Club contract ID; no coupon yet.)

I have never booked a minivan before - that seemed an ok rate to me but I am hoping I can knock it down some with a coupon as it gets closer.

if you use this coupon
http://www.nationalcar.com/2carupgradeCoupon.do?COUPON_ID2=10009416&RECAP_NO=5766241&footer=1
and tick full size, it upgrades you to a van with National and the total cost comes down to $197.69 for your dates, I got mine for $302.00 (1/2 of Alamo) today by using this coupon and the Amex code, you can use a AAA code too and bring it lower, all those codes are on mousesavers if you want to look at them all.
