Can anyone tell me of a good cutting machine that they like other than the Cricut? I have a Cricut and I use sure cuts a lot with it and love it. But SCAL is no long going to be supported on the Cricut. I was just wondering what other cutting machines that you have and do you like them? Do they use svg files that you can download to your computer?

Thanks for any help.

SvgCuts.com is reviewing different machines on their site. I'm in the market for a new one too. Don't know how much longer my E will work, and I want to be able to use SCAL.

I too hope my E last a little longer : ( I have SCAL (the original version) and MTC (Make the Cut, which I love!!!). Neither will work with the newer cricuts anymore. MTC does work with several different machines, so hopefully SCAL will do the same soon. If you visit the MTC website, they have a forum and there are lots of discussions on this topic (which machine is better, etc). It might help you to know what to buy if SCAL becomes partners with different companies. I hate it that cricut is no longer available as an option!! I do have several cricut cartridges and the gypsy that I also enjoy using :confused3 What to do??

A friend of mine has a sillouette which she absolutely loves. Initially she had a cricut and used DS, but she had no reservations going to the S.

I am "saving" up for the new silhouette cameo that is to be released in October. It will cut a 12", while the silhouette SD will only cut 8".

And I really like the way http://underacherrytree.blogspot.com/ features the Silhouette and the MTC interfacing together with the awesome svg's from letteringdelights.com

Also on the above blog she tested some of the other cutters.

I saw this announced and it intrigues me. It is my understanding that the cameo will replace the SD which will be discontinued.

I have an Xyron Wishblade and I love it... no cartridges. You can download fonts, images, and make your own designs.

what size can you cut out?? does it take mats (if so how hard are they to find & can you resticky yourself??) does SCAL2 work with it

I have cricut and pazzles. It cuts 12x12 and will cut anything you can imagine. You can even draw the image to cut!

Personally I prefer cricut since it is designed for idiots and really easy to use (and I am not that smart! ;)), but when I want something out of the ordinary I turn to pazzle! :thumbsup2

From what I can gather, Sure Cuts A Lot Versions 1 and 2 will still work on Cricut, but Version 3 (the one that's currently on sale) will not.

But will SCAL 1 or 2 work with a newer cricut?? I thought that the newer cricuts (like if you have to buy a replacement one) would not work with SCAL 1 or 2?? Just making sure I understand correctly?? Hoping my current cricut has a little more life in it -LOL

I believe that SCAL 2 (or 1 for that matter) will not work if you update your firmware. I haven't and don't plan to anytime soon. Hoping I can get another year or two out of the Cricut, it is nearly 5 years old, and then buy the new Silhouette Cameo and someday get another Cricut. I do have about a bazillion cartridges (just a guesstimate).

That is what I had heard, don't upgrade firmware and that the new cricuts being sold in the store are programmed not to work with SCAL, MTC, etc. Luckily I had to update my firmware in December when I got my gypsy before this changed was made-whew!!

When you are referring to the new cricuts are you meaning a new Expression or Imagine? I bought a new Expression in July was hoping that it would work with the SCAL version 2.

I know in May is when they quit selling SCAL 2 to use with a cricut. Do you already own SCAL 2, because if not you can not purchase it for use with a Cricut anymore that I am aware of. I have no idea how you would know if the cricut you bought would be compatiable or not if you already own SCAL 2 except for to try it out?? I am sorry. I thought all new provocraft machines (expression, baby bug, create, etc.) were not going to be compatiable with SCAL or MTC anymore. Most information I have received have been on scrapbook forums?? Not sure, wish I was more help.

The current version of SCAL that is being sold is SCAL3. And SCAL3 does not work with any cricut machines.

If you currently own SCAL2, you get a "free" upgrade to SCAL3 to use with the cutting systems that SCAL supports.

I have the Silhouette and while it is great for downloading individual images and fonts for cheap (or even free), it doesn't cut any licensed images. It's cutting mat is also only 8" wide. This hasn't been a problem for me, but a larger mat would be nice. I have been thinking about getting a baby bug just to cut Disney images.
