Hello,

We are looking to potentially buy a subsidized Aulani contract 200 points. Our broker told us there is one available and we could likely get it for 90 pp. we would be responsible for closing costs and this years dues. Does anyone know if that is a good price? Also, our broker was pushing us a bit towards a SSR contract due to better value and has told us that Aulani contracts keep dropping in price making it a less than favourable investment. We travel to Hawaii ever 2 years and would look at using any additional points at WDW. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

How often do you go to WDW? and what resort(s) would you be choosing there?

What is the use year? Are there points available now or do you have to wait a year or borrow from next year to use it? Are there any banked points?

Hi. We would do wdw every 4 years or so. We probably would go to Aulani 2 or 3 trips to every one at WDW. We aren't too picky on which resort as long as there's a nice pool area. We have a 1 year old only so far.

Hello,

There are full 2017 points and 50 banked points with a use year of August. Thanks.

For Aulani and wdw it depends on what time of year you will want to travel and what type of rooms you want to book for the home resort advantage. Aulani is difficult to get at 7 months in summer and us and Japanese holidays. Outside of this, rooms at 7 months except standards and studios are pretty easy if your schedule is flexible. WDW on site with a home resort advantage is important if you want every other year. The subsidized mf's are really nice but the broker is right about resale. Wdw and DL properties retain a much higher resale value. Have you thought about splitting up and purchasing one Aulani and one wdw resort contract giving yourself home advantage for each? We own at AKV and Aulani subsidized. The only reason I purchased Aulani was for ability to book a standard hotel room for Jan/February. Slow time for Aulani but only way to get hotel room is if owner. Had I wanted an island view two bedroom I think I'd have been ok this time of year without home resort advantage. I've had to reschedule trips in the past and booking in the 7 month window is difficult when I've tried at wdw and Aulani.

It's all in the numbers and availability. Will owning Aulani save you money or cost you more for your Hawaii vacations, your WDW vacations? For the dates that you will vacation, how is the availability at the resorts?

That is not all current points. I'd personally offer less if you do decide Aulani is a good fit for you.

The subsidized dues are key and lower than many WDW resorts so paying a little more than a non- subsidized contract can still make sense but it's also a larger contract and not loaded.

Are you already familiar with Hawaii and know that the Koolina area is good for you?

Oh sorry I meant full 2017 points coming in August and 50 banked 2016 points if that makes more sense... can you tell I'm new lol.

From a strictly dollar perspective, it seems to me that $90 pp is a good price for a subsidized contract at the Aulani. That said, if you are thinking of spending the points at WDW then the SSR is a much better choice. SSR will run you about the same or slightly less, with a reasonable maintenance fee.

It's close but just a little higher than what the last reports were of similar points received although those were slightly smaller contracts and earlier in the year. One could try a little lower offer although if the contract really is ideal it might not be worth it. If I thought it was a nice contract that would work I'd probably offer $3-5 less per point. If ideal then I might not bother.

Also think about the use year. When do you think you want to travel? August is great for stays for Aug-March. You have to bank unused points by the end of March to use the following year and if you don't use them or bank them, you lose them. So if you plan to go to Aulani between April and July and you have to cancel, you will have unbankable points to use before August 1. We have August and have traveled in May a few times, but we have been fortunate not to have to cancel. I wouldn't want to buy an August use year if we always traveled in May.

Also if I were going to Aulani and not WDW most of the time, I would buy Aulani to get the 11 month booking window.

Thank you all so much for your time! So much to think about :) we do hope to spend about 75% of our points at Aulani. We normally travel between November and March as our winters are so cold.
