GOOD coffee around DLR

We're staying at the Grand Californian for five nights, and I must have my coffee. Unfortunately, I've NEVER been a fan of the coffee available at WDW, so I don't have high expectations for DLR coffee, either.

Are there any real coffee shops (and yes, I include Starbucks in that) around? I know there's La Brea Bread in DTD, but anything else within walking distance.

Must. Have. Coffee!!

We went to La Brea for our coffee. There was some talk a while back about Disney changing coffee companies from Nescafe, but I haven't heard if they did or not or if it is better. I guess it was something good, I would have heard. :confused3

Other places to try include Compass book store at the top of DTD, and there is a Starbucks in the lobby of the hilton.

I 2nd the Compass book store coffee, it blew me away, but meh on the starbucks coffee..

..I thought the Compass Book Store closed??

I have to say that I love my Starbucks, but I think there are options at the hotel. We usually grab coffeee, latte, muffins, etc. in the lounge downstairs at the GC. I have never had any complaints there and they open pretty early. Worth a shot I suppose.

If you like cold coffee's... As you walk through DCA's main gates, to your right there will be a long silver train (Having a brain fart) Cant remember name... anyways in there they sell this amazing ice mocha :lovestruc I cant pass it up when I go to DL/DCA.

We bought a little four cup coffee maker just for us to take to Disneyland. We bring all the fixins and the to-go cups. That way we can have any kind of coffee we want.

The Grand Californian rooms have a small coffee maker with a basket type filter, so I bring my own filters and coffee for my morning wake up coffee.

I heard that rumor as well, but it was open when I was there two weeks ago. :goodvibes

It's still there.

Coffee - someone mentioned Peet's at the Häagen-Dasz store. And I think Mimi's serves Diedrich's Coffee.

Thanks everyone! This really helps. I'm sitting here right now contemplating a cup of coffee or if I should take a nap. I'm a bad addict!

Thanks for the suggestion about bringing your own coffee maker, but we're East Coasters coming in via plane, so that's out.

As for the in room coffee maker, well, I'm really paranoid about that kind of stuff. I don't even use glasses in the room unless they are plastic! There was even a hidden video thingy a few years ago about how the glass cups aren't very clean, and the video even spotlighted Mousekeeping at the Contemporary at WDW - they were just rinsing them in the sink in the bathroom! So I'm very leery of any in room maker!!

So good to know! When I saw the mentions of Compass I remembered being told by someone I trust that it was closed...but went to their website and it still showed as being open.

So if they are still open, last time I checked they sell Coffee Klatch coffee, which is from a smallish so cal roaster.

I know that HD sells Peets *espresso* but I do not know for sure if they sell Peets brewed coffee.

My Italian grandmother used to serve espresso made in a french press, so I'm pretty picky about my coffee, and the Starbucks Via, their instant version, is shockingly good. So if you need coffee all day, and don't want to go back to your room to brew it, you can stick a couple pouches in your purse and be good to go!

Plus, they must be doing something different at the Nescafe Bakery on Main St. After trying their coffee many times and giving up years ago, I tried it again when I went in January and I was surprised. It wasn't bad. I did order an espresso drink, though, so that might be why. It definitely wasn't watery like it has been in the past.

I would assume this is the same coffee served at both places, but my friends enjoyed the coffee at the Market House last October, as well as the coffee at Blue Ribbon Bakery in December (maybe that was the new and improved stuff)...but one of those same friends was absolutely sickened by the coffee she got from a little cart over near the Pacific Wharf bridge area in DCA in December. I would have thought that the DCA coffee from the cart was the same stuff, but she did not like it at all and she grimaced about it for an hour as she tried to get it down (to wake herself up), whereas she didn't mind the Market House stuff or the Blue Ribbon Bakery stuff.:confused3

Maybe you could bring a very little thing of dish soap with your toiletries and wash the coffeepot & cups yourself?

If you want to try something new and different (and STRONG), try the Chickory Coffee at the Jazz Kitchen Express in DTD.

:rotfl: No, I actually bring my own plastic cups on every single trip. I'd actually rather buy my coffee than go through all that. I'll admit coffee is one of the things I get snobby about - my coffee maker at home is the kind that grinds the beans for you each time you make a pot. But as for the in room coffee makers, well, I've heard about some nasty stuff that people have done with them! The last place I stayed had a Keruig-style, and I'd be okay with that, but not the other.

In all seriousness, this is the report: http://www.insideedition.com/news.aspx?storyID=1320 and http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/BusinessTravel/story?id=4277067&page=1 I'm not a germaphobe (I still use the nasty remote after I wipe it down), but there are just a few things...

The Nescafe stuff was just intolerable...really awful, and I survived medical school on really bad hospital coffee.

There was a cart just at the end of DTD near the parks that had Starbuck's but didn't open until 8.

Otherwise I also recommend the Starbuck's Via instant. Not my favorite but better than the alternative.

The instant/concentrate Nescafe is what I'm trying to avoid for sure. I think I will bring Via with me just in case. My DH thinks I'm nuts because I'll drink coffee in hot weather, but I just have to have my 1 cup.
