Welcome! The people here are nuts, I'm nothing like them. Whatever they say about me is a LIE! A DIRTY LIE I TELL YOU!!!
Yeah, what he said

Welcome! The people here are nuts, I'm nothing like them. Whatever they say about me is a LIE! A DIRTY LIE I TELL YOU!!!
The old days may not be so far away, there's a serious push on by Comcast, Verizon, ATT etc to find ways to make more money off of their internet services. Metering use is one of their great ideas, google Net Neutraility for more info
October 1992.....our CompuServe bill was $630. Parents were not pleased.![]()
And a year ago, I had not paid any attention to the DIS boards.
I do enjoy MANY different podcasts!
I know Comcast has a 250 gb cap on their unlimited plan but to be honest it would be pretty hard to go over 250 unless you were really trying. Not that it won't be an issue in the future as more and more content is streamed, but for now it is pretty liberal.
Time Warner was running a trial in parts of TX last winter with a 40GB cap, that could really be a problem.
Unfortunately most "unlimited" plans are not actually unlimited. Look at most cellular data plans and you will see a 5GB cap hidden in there.
There is a pretty large conflict of interest inherent with most ISPs. If that ISP is a cable company they want to limit the amount of data you can get to try and curtail the use of streaming TV and movies. They want you to watch the shows on their cable stations instead of over their Internet feed (legally of course). If they are a Telco they want to limit the use of free telephone services like Skype. I would say the FTC and FCC need to get involved but first they have to figure out the Internet. I'm holding my breath, how about you?![]()

The title of the thread caught my eye so I had to come and read.
This thread has basically moved on and I'm GLAD to see that.
I have only listened to the podcasts a handful of times. I dunno, they just didn't do much for me..had I heard some good sarcasm in there when I listened maybe they would have. HAI appreciate sarcasm.
I'm Queen of it!
While I don't think announcing you're leaving is really productive, I understand why the OP probably said what they did. It was probably his(?) way of voicing his unhappiness w/ the downward turn (in his view) of the tone of the casts. Posting in this forum would most certainly draw attention to the issue he wanted to draw attention to.
As for freebies. I'm sure most people aren't but take a look at the boards, they are littler w/ posts of people wondering how they can get upgrades. I'm sure there is some measure of truth to that statement though most people probably are not a mooch. So while painting the audience w/ a broad brush was what it might have sounded like (and maybe intended, I dunno), it cannot possibly be entirely true. I'm sure 90% of the people and probably 100% of them on this thread aren't that kind of listener. They just love what they listen to and love the eople they have grown to love. Being vocal and supportive of the podcast does not in itself, equate to being a groupie w/ a motive, but hey, there's nothing wrong w/ being a groupie.
Until Pete's post (which is probably one of the only posts by Pete other than a stickie I have ever read), I was getting more and more disheartened by the replies. I myself recently had taken some very pointed nasty comments directed towards me by some people and though I complained about it, the posts were allowed to stand thereby letting their viewpoint stand w/o mine being able to be posted. Or at least did the last time I looked. That didn't exactly make me feel good about how the DIS boards were being allowed to grow. So in reading this thread, or the beginning of it, I was fearing yet again, that that is how moderating was being carried out on the DIS now. I appreciated then, seeing Pete's post. that made me feel much better than a man at the helm really did care how things were going and though the OP was directed in his direction as well, he didn't come back with a nasty. He displayed professionalism an decorum. Well done!
I appreciate the turn for the better the thread made after that post. Well, for the most part. It CERTAINLY turned more delicious! I HAD to copy some of those cake pix to my desktop. YUMMO!
If nothing else has come out of this thread, I'm sure more people will be giving the casts a try. I will.Publicity, even negative publicity, usually works out for the better.
Off to see if I can scope out some rants and sarcasm. I enjoy them.![]()
I didn't see the op single you out. Maybe I missed something. I've been listening since 07 and took no offense to what the op said. That's their opinion. GEEZ! Can anyone express their opinion without certain posters getting their torches and pitchforks. The mob mentality and outright rudeness does not help your case. It shows that you have little tolerance for those that don't agree with you. PETE WAS RIGHT! Pete and the podcast crew are all strong people. They can handle themselves. No one threatened them. I LOVE 99% of the show and admire most of the panel, but there is no need for me to be downright nasty to someone if they don't agree.
Tandy 1000RLX! My first computer, bought it with my student loan money. It played a mean game of Kings Quest V

If you want to hear one of the funniest DIS podcasts checkout the 1/08/08 show. I could not stop laughing.![]()
???????????all of their groupies
I agree with what Pete said 99%
Thank you, Pete.
I agree with Pete!
Pete - keep up the rants.
Pete, I really really appreciate you coming and saying this. I really respect you and appreciate you coming here to do just that, reminding us to keep the balance.
Hi
I was really pleased Pete replied in this thread.
Pete's response was so impressive that I hope the OP comes back and reads it. what Pete did was classy.
and thats just up to where dessert was servedPete:
Your response is wonderful. I think you show a sensitivity to your listeners and board members that isn't often seen in this day and age. Keep telling it like it is!![]()
I couldn't agree more. I did not see her name in OP's post either. It seems like someone has their back up so they don't have to feel bad about what was said.
In re the OP, I think they were just trying to give some honest constructive criticism (FWIW I don;t watch (listen?) to the podcast so i have no opinion on the matter
Life's too short to get your knickers in a knot over such a small thing.
Welcome to how I spent the 80's.
And, while we are here, I have to mention it. Yes, folks....I'm sorry, but I have to do it:
