Good by CALIFORNIA, and Golden Gate.

Personally I like the way the parks change. Unfortuanetly we don't get to go very often and when we do its nice to see something new or differnt.

They are still there for now. They won't be taken down until January 4. BUT one side of the mosaic is down and the other side is covered. I was just there last week. :thumbsup2

And good riddance. Although, I agree with someone who posted a comment on the blog that said it looks a lot like HS at WDW, which is my least favorite Disney park.

Jan 4....
I will be there Jan 10...so no more letters for me! :(
I am looking forward to seeing DCA when all the renovations are complete! The concept art looks beautiful! :)
I wonder how they are planning on doing the entrance, and how guests are going to be able to enter/exit the park? while construction is going on?

Jan 4 is just a number of convinience. Jan 3rd ends the Holidays so it depends how fast they get the stuff down. It doesn't mean on the 4th they will have the letters and bridge down. They didn't build them overnight.

So there's finally a date huh? I've been following when the letters/GGB were supposed to come down since 2009 since I wanted to see them again to get photos. I'm very excited to see the changes keep on coming, although there is a sad little tear or two for what we have to say goodbye too.

Even though I will be sad to see the end of the Golden Gate Bridge and the CALIFORNIA letters, I must say the what they are doing with the entrance of DCA and the knock-off of the Pan Pacific is very surprising to me, and is going to be very nostalgic for me.

First of all, does anyone recognize the architecture of the Pan Pacific from the movie "Xanadu" with Olivia Newton-John? Parts of "Xanadu" were filmed outside of the entry to the Pan Pacific. It's been used for other things here and there, too.

The Pan Pacific Auditorium is a place that was removed when Pan Pacific Park was built and put in its place...and Pan Pacific Park is now located right next to the historic Farmers Market (and The Grove). As a child, I spent many weekends with my grandmother at the PP Auditorium when they showed first-run movies and held huge rummage sales and things. I think we even saw an ice show there (not the Ice Capades, but something else). It was essentially right across the street from where my grandmother lived (and where I always visited).

So seeing that Disney/DCA will be using the Pan Pacific Auditorium marquee architecture is really something that will remind me of my childhood!:goodvibes I was actually kind of stunned when I saw that was the direction they were going in for the new DCA entrance.

Aww...bummer! I knew they were going to take down the CALIFORNIA letters but it never hit me that they were going to remove the GG Bridge as well (even though I have been to the Blue Celler and saw that they were going to turn Sunshine Plaza into Buena Vista Street). I will be there MLK weekend but it'll probably be too late to get some last pictures...

On Tuesday, when we were at DLR, the letters were decorated with the candy cane stripes. I commented to DH that I was happy to see them in candy cane for the season and not just left in rainbow style for WoC until they are taken down.

The mosaic on the right (maybe? left? hmm, right?) had plastic covering all around it.

The bridge should come down quickly, after all it's just an empty facade bolted around the monorail beam.

Yep and keeping in mind the murals were to be done by Nov 17ish...

I don't remember where I heard it but the letters were being saved for possible future use and the bridge was sold.

I think I might be one of the very few that will miss the CALIFORNIA and the GGB. So, does that mean that the Monorail won't go by DCA anymore ever?

No, the monorail is not being rerouted. The bridge will be rethemed.

I think Dreams was clarifying that the monorail in DCA does not have a station in DCA.

No I will miss the letters and bridge. .but I heard that he bridge got sold to someone super wealthy..???

Im sorry that that can’t keep the bridge, I mean wans’t the golden gate bridge built before 1940?

I like the letters. I am not a fan of the DHS knock off.

I agree, this is the biggest dissapointment for me about the changes in DCA. I understand they need the theming to be consistent but copying the gate of DHS and taking out a popular picture taking location?

I like the letters...they could at least keep them but spell some other word...
Well, the new entrance BETTER BE GOOD!!
