Good Beaches for Kids on St. Maartan?

Part of my family has a excursion at St. Maartan that doesn't return to the ship until 6:45. Which means they would miss Pirate Night Main seating. As it is my nieces 5th birthday they are thinking of just doing a beach day on their own.

Any recommendations?
Thanks

My family including two 10 year olds and I took a local cabbie to Maho Beach for about 1 hour then he took us to Mullet Bay Beach which was serene, quiet and absolutely beautiful. There was a small snack shack which rented chairs and umbrellas and sold wifi also.

My family (me, DH, boy 14, boy 12 and girl 7) grabbed a cab at port and went to Mullet bay (gorgeous beautiful beach. Nice snorkeling, Had chairs, food, drink etc. My kids still RAVE about the ribs from the beach shack that sold food and drink) first thing. We hung out there til about Noon and then walked to maho (you could get a cab but it was an easy 15 min walk through town) and then watched the planes land and take off for about an hour and half. Totally worth watching the planes but the beach there is crappy (crowded, narrow and steep). Then when we were ready we grabbed a cab back to town and shopped for a bit. It was a perfect day and I'm so glad we didn't waste the money on an excursion.

Bernard's is fantastic. We have used them twice and have nothing bad to say.

My family and I went to Le Galion. Took us 20 minutes to get there. It was like Paradise, wáter really calm and the beach was almost for ourselves. We had several toddlers in our group and they has a blast in the shallow waters. Retrooms, beach chair and unbrellas for rent on the beach. Also restrooms.

The butterfly farm is really fun! We did it as part of a tour.

Can anyone comment on cab fare from Mullets or Maho back to port?

I"m sure others will know more, but FWIW when you get off the ship and onto the pier area, there is a big huge sign listing fares from there to just about anywhere, and how much extra per extra passenger. It's really cool.

OP if they just want A beach, there is a pretty beach *right there* in Philipsburg. Get off the ship, get out of the immediate ship area, and you have your choice to walk, taxi, or water taxi over to P'burg. If you take the water taxi, you'll get off (at the SECOND stop, the one right there in town) on a small dock with a store or two right there (Effy jewelry store if it's still the same), go through to the main street, and you'll see beach.

We spent the day once at the beach in Phillipsburg. We took the water taxi (right by where you get off the ship they sell all day tickets for something like $6 pp and you can go back and forth as many times as you want). The taxis docks right at a nice beach with views of the ship. There will be guys there offering to rent you chairs, umbrellas, buckets of beer and sodas.

Another time we took a taxi to Maho. I think the taxi was about $5 pp each way. There is a taxi stand with prices posted and they have an organized line where you tell them where you're going. The kids loved seeing the planes. The beach wasn't as nice as the one in Phillipsburg - gets deeper fast and had more currents but we loved it also.

Where does the water taxi go? Can you get on and off at different beaches?

The water taxi only goes from the port to Phillipsburg (where there's a beach). It's more like a shuttle service since they only take you to/from that one stop.

I too echo Le Gallion. We loved it! Just down from Orient beach but as its protected its quieter, less windy and less busy. We ended up taking a taxi to le Galion and Maho and while seeing the planes was cool, wish we had spent more time at le Gallion

There's the first stop, at some marina place or something (Bobby's Marina?). But the main stop is the true Philipsburg one.
