Good battery charger?

Anyone have a good battery charger to recommend? Ideally I think we want one with a car adapter. The one we have now works fine (Energizer wall mount type) but it doesn't have the car adapter and takes all night to fully charge 4 AA 2500 NiMH batteries. I would like to find something a little quicker that still does a good job (seen some bad reviews of the Energizer 15 minute charger).

my flashes use AA batteries, my cameras all have propriatery batteries, then there is the cell phone etc...


I decided that rather than having to buy car chargers for everything, and for each new cell phone,, I would just buy a good 400Watt power inverter, that way with each new cell phone/camera/device I was still good to go, since they all usually come with a regular AC charger

this has allowed me to charge 2 camera batteries at a time, when on location shoots...

it has worked out very well. one of the best investments I've made..

The faster the charger, the harder it is on the batteries...

Check Thomas Distributing, they sell the premium chargers. I currently use the LaCrosse charger, which has LCDs for each battery so you can see exactly how much juice each is taking (and test them to weed out the stinkers), you can adjust how quickly they charge, etc, etc... and the price is not unreasonable.

I don't remember if it came with a car charger, I don't think it did but I could be wrong. Some of the Maha chargers (which are also top-notch) come with car chargers or have them available as options.

In checking into the LaCrosse charger, I have found a lot of information on-line about overheating the batteries, melting and nearly starting fires. Evidently, the "new" version of the charger, v33, fixes these issues. Based upon the capabilities of the charger I would consider it, but the whole "catching the house on fire" bit gives me pause. Any personal anecdotes, one way or the other?
