Good article about booking a cheap Disney Trip

The writer pretty much stated what has been repeated on this board many times - you get more room for your $ when you stay offsite.

What she did not factor is was the cost of ground transportation and parking, which could pretty much make the two prices identical.

There are also intangibles that are hard to put a price tag on such as being in the magic 24/7, EMH, and the amount of vacation time spent traveling between her chosen resort and her park of choice for the day.

ETA: She also failed to mention (or perhaps did not research well enough) that her resort of choice charges a daily resort fee of $11.95 which is payable at check in. And their free theme park shuttle only goes to Epcot, departs from the hotel only twice a day and returns only three times per day.

The comments to the article, one replier was a travel agent who pointed out that during those days of the stay, people were eligible for free dining and a $50 gift card (through her agency at least). One of the other commenters pointed out the parking fees.

We're a family of five, we can't stay cheaply at the economy resorts, so we don't know anything about them. I did not know about the $11.95 daily resort fee. What in the world is that?

As what the previous poster stated, it didn't account for parking. We stayed offsite in May and visited the parks 7 days. At $14 a day that about 100. You need to really price everything based on your needs. We had decided to buy annual passes which gives you free parking because we are planning on going again in Jan. Also if you are renting a car, you don't need shuttles which I find are overly crowded and not a good time budget thing. We also got free breakfast offsite which was nice. But we will still watch the prices for pop century for january and might stay there. You have to know what you need and price them. And if all else fails, you post on this board and people help you out.
